Charlie Hatchett passed away peacefully in his home January 16, 2014 shortly after his 75th birthday. Charlie was born and raised in Lamesa, Texas, a resident of Austin, Texas for 32 years, and a resident of Marble Falls, Texas for 19 years. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Joy Hatchett; children Tyke (Sandra), Kim, and Heather; his siblings Bill, Robin (Fred), Earl (Cindy); grandchildren Chas, Kayla, Kasey, Jordan, Mia, Nick, Taylor, Madison; his loyal dog, Donald and his many, many dear friends.
Charlie was born and raised on a working farm in Lamesa, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University, attaining a B.A. in Zoology. Subsequently, he moved to Austin, Texas graduating from the University of Texas Law School, with a statewide ranking of number two on the Bar exam. He thoroughly enjoyed music and while attending college and law school he pursued his passion performing in local and regional favorites, The Raiders and The Fabulous Chevelles.
Upon his admission to the Bar of Texas he served as Assistant District Attorney in Travis County, continuing to perform in The Fabulous Chevelles, while developing his now widely known booking agency, Hatchett Talent Agency. While developing his agency, Charlie had the privilege of partnering with great artists such as Don Henley, Christopher Cross, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Johnson and many other well respected artists. One of the highlights of his music career was the AMA Industry Honors Award presented at the Austin Music Awards during SXSW in 2012.
Charlie was a champion for equality of all men, demonstrating this commitment by befriending people of a variety of cultures and socioeconomic groups. Charlie demonstrated his passion for the outdoors, managing his beautiful ranch outside of Marble Falls, Texas raising livestock and caring for the land. Charlie was an avid pilot logging many hours in his Aeronca Champ, Luscombe WWII trainer, Mooney Bravo, and Cessna 140.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at Clements-Wilcox funeral home in Marble Falls Texas on January 20th at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to participate in the celebration. In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s wish is for donations to be made to The American Cancer Society, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), and Lifelong Friends Pet Adoptions.
