Charles Lynn Willis

Charles Lynn Willis passed from this life at the age of 89 on July 28, 2015. He was born October 13, 1925, to Washington Irving and Alma Mae Willis in Arlington, Texas. Lynn graduated from Arlington High School, and from Texas Tech University, with degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering.

Lynn served in World War II as a Navy pilot. He married Bettye Ruth Flynt on September 1, 1946. Lynn started working as an engineer in Arlington, and his first job as an engineer was to help design the bomb bay doors on the B-52 bomber. He and his family moved to Marble Falls in 1952, and he then worked for the Mathis and Lennox Air Conditioning Companies and as a salesman for Granite Mountain in Marble Falls. He founded Willis Environmental Engineering in Marble Falls in 1965, being instrumental in establishing the subdivision of Pecan Valley and the cities of Horseshoe Bay and Meadowlakes, among others. He retired from Willis Environmental Engineering in 1996.

Lynn loved hunting, fishing, and camping, and served others in many capacities. He served as a Boy Scout leader, having attained the rank of Eagle Scout himself. He also coached Pony League summer baseball. He was a member of the Marble Falls School Board and the Rotary Club of Marble Falls, serving, at various times, as president of both organizations. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Marble Falls, and had served on the church board and sang in the choir for a number of years.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Marvin, of Arlington, TX, and a daughter, Carlene Willis of Marble Falls. He is survived by his wife, Bettye, a sister, Thelma Ragland of Abilene, two sons, Larry Willis (JoAnna) of Lubbock, and Darrell Willis of Marble Falls, and a daughter, Lynda Plumlee (Tony) of Marble Falls. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Corey Plumlee of Austin, Lindsey Willis Moss (Tanner) of Anna, Christopher Willis (Amy) of Selma, and Wade Willis of Llano, and two great granddaughters, Evangeline (Eve) Willis and Juliette Willis, both of Selma. He also had many extended family members and special friends. Graveside services were held Sunday, August 2, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Jo Kuntz officiated at the service.
