D Rene' Jones

D Rene' Jones was born March 26, 1953 and passed away on April 1, 2026. Born in Long Beach, California, the daughter of George W. and Ava Nell Jones of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She grew up all over the United States due to her father's work with the Department of Labor but always considered Texas home. Rene' graduated high school from MacArthur High School in Irving, TX. She then attended nursing school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where she fine-tuned her french vocabulary. She was a proud U.S. Marine Corp wife for 22 years, often saying she was married to the Corp, so when the time came she proudly signed for her son, Jason, to enlist as well. In the last 4 years of her life she lived in Marble Falls, TX to be close to family.

She was a talented seamstress, creating elaborate costumes and a brilliant innovator. She enjoyed reading, sewing, shooting, woodworking, jewelry making, needlepoint and traveling. Rene' was a strong independent woman before being strong and independent was cool. She traveled the world alone, living a life that people dream of, having real life adventures that most only see in the movies. Her quick wit, ingenuity, and boldness to reinvent herself whenever she needed or wanted is something we all aspire to raise our daughters to be. Beneath her strength was a soft side that loved babies and dogs but most of all, she adored her kids and had no problem telling you how they are smarter than anyone else. Her love for them was fierce. Rene is now off to her next adventure but her legacy and the stories of her life will remain in a way that only legends leave behind.

Rene' leaves behind her son, Jason Smuts and his wife Deborah, as well as, her daughter, Stephanie Smuts. She has 5 grandchildren; Hilarie, Jake, Olivia, Julian and Magdalena, as well as 4 great-grandchildren; Payslee, Meadow, Aralyn and Mateo.
