Dick Schieffer

Dick Schieffer, 89, of Horseshoe Bay, passed away peacefully August 7, 2026.  Dick and his twin brother Dan, were born in Austin, Texas on August 14, 1936 to Emmitt and Laura Schieffer. Dick attended University Junior High, Austin High School and  graduated from Austin High School in 1955.  He attended San Angelo State for a brief time before enrolling in the Army. 

 At an early age, Dick learned the cattle and ranch business. He spent his youth on the Schieffer Ranch which borders a part of Horseshoe Bay on the eastern city limits.  Dick and his brother rode horses, drove cattle, wrestled steers, learned to shoot, learned to hunt and fish and many other adventures as young boys in the 1940’s living on a ranch. 

Not only did Dick learn to love the land he also learned to love the game of golf.  He became a PGA Professional golfer after his service in the Army, Dick worked as assistant pro at Austin Muny, Morris Williams in Austin, Pinehurst Country Club in Denver, Colorado and Lakeside Country Club in Houston Texas. After his golf career he became chief salesman for RLI, Inc. in Phoenix Arizona.  Dick returned to Texas in the late 1980’s and ran a cow calf cattle operation at his family ranch in Horseshoe Bay, Texas for the rest of his life.  

Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman.  It was a perfect way for him to spend time with all his good friends and family.  Dick was a lifelong bachelor, but was like a second father to his great nephew and niece, Ras Redwine ,VI and Elizabeth Redwine Brenner.

Dick was preceded in death by his mother and father, Laura Stahl Schieffer and Jacob Emmitt Schieffer, his twin brother Dan Schieffer, his sister Jane Schieffer Redwine and his niece Suzanne Redwine Fischer and nephew Brian Redwine.  He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Mary Daniel, nephews, Ras Redwine, V (Liz), Mitch Schieffer (Shelly), Mike Schieffer, (Yvette), great nephew Ras Redwine, VI, Great-Great nephew Ras Redwine, VII, Great niece and God Child, Elizabeth Redwine Brenner (Luke), Great-Great nieces, Jane Price Brenner and Carlisle Schieffer Brenner.

The family would like to extend our special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Gateway Gardens and Altus Hospice in Marble Falls, Texas. They went far beyond the call of duty to give Dick great care and comfort.
