

Ellen graduated from Ellis High School in 1963 and went on to attend The University of Kansas where she graduated in 1967 with a degree in Education. Ellen was a lifelong educator, teaching school for 38 years, and was a strong advocate of Special Education and Bi-lingual programs. She was known for her love of teaching and devotion to her students.
Ellen enjoyed golf cart rides around her neighborhood in Meadowlakes, sitting outside by her fountain, tending to her flowers, sipping a glass of wine and sweets. She loved singing in the church choir and volunteering in the office. She rarely missed Bunko, Book Club, SALT luncheons and treasured time with her friends. She loved all of her dogs, especially Edgar who she liked to snuggle with on lazy mornings.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Larry Wynn Pettett, sister Elaine Holmes, and her son Peter Doffing.
She is survived by her daughter Angela Taylor and her husband Jake, her brother-in-law Robert E. Holmes and her nephews Chris Holmes (wife Leisa, children Campbell, Megan), Mark Holmes (children Maddie, Keller) and Matt Holmes (wife Carol, children Reagan, Walker).
A Memorial service September 22, 2026 at 1 pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Marble Falls, TX with a small reception to follow.
