Eugene (Gene), aka Geno, Joseph Miller, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all he met, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by hard work, compassion and a genuine love for people. He was a man whose presence made others feel welcomed, valued and at ease - whether through his easy humor, his kindness, or his willingness to listen.
Born with an unwavering work ethic and a heart for service, Eugene never shied away from giving his all. He served proudly in the U.S. Army National Guard before working at his father's gas station and mechanic shop. He later spent 34 years with 3M, where his brilliance and dedication led to three patents in abrasive technology - accomplishments he carried with quiet pride.
Eugene lived by a simple but powerful set of values: protect and provide for his family. His wife, Joan Hesler Miller, and his sons, Joseph Eugene (Erica) Miller and Daniel Charles (Kristen) Miller, were at the center of his world. He found his greatest joy in being a hands-on, fully engaged father and grandfather - the kind of man who would get down on the floor to play, chasing giggling children through the yard, or light up a room simply by being present. His six grandchildren - Monroe, Sloane, Genevieve, Ford, Ruby and Bowie - were the pride of his life, each one adored beyond measure. Gene is predeceased by his parents Joe and Katherine, his brothers, Chuck and Arnie and his sister, Carol. He is survived by his brothers, Bob and Art and sister Karlene. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Outside of family, Eugene found joy in nurturing the world around him. His yard, garden and meticulously tended landscaping reflected his care for the outdoors. He loved growing vegetables, staying active; as he went to his local gym nearly every day, eating healthy (with room for sweet treats), and traveling the world with Joan, his partner in every sense of the word.
Eugene was also deeply committed to helping those in need. Before moving to Texas, Gene volunteered his time at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport aiding lost travelers find their connecting gates. For nearly twenty years, he and Joan volunteered their time, resources, and hearts to Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent de Paul, living out Eugene's belief that compassion should be practiced, not just spoken.
He will be remembered for his openness, his compassionate heart, his humor, and his unwavering dedication. Eugene leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, humor, and kindness, one that will continue through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
His memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew him and may he rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 201 Dalton Circle, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657 or send to Joan.
