

Gary Leon Cutsinger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and former professional football player, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on February 4, 1940, in Perry, Oklahoma to Harold Leon “Pete” Cutsinger and Mary Helen Loch Cutsinger. He grew up alongside his brother, Roddy K. Cutsinger, and sister, Cheryl Sue Cutsinger.
A proud native of Perry, Gary attended Oklahoma State University, where he distinguished himself on the defensive line and built an impressive football career. He was selected by the Houston Oilers in the fourth round of the 1962 AFL Draft and also drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. Gary signed with the Oilers, and had a remarkable football career.
Standing 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 260 pounds, Gary became a dominant presence on the field. He appeared in all 14 games during his rookie season in 1962 and helped lead the Oilers to the AFL Championship that same year. Over the course of his career from 1962 to 1968, Gary played in 84 regular-season games and was selected by his teammates to receive the Third Down Trophy.
Following his football career, Gary made Texas his home, living in the Houston and Austin areas before eventually settling in Horseshoe Bay. He became a successful home builder and developer with Cutsinger Homes, where he captured his passion for building homes and connecting with the community.
Gary cherished his family. In 1975, he married his wife, Pam Cutsinger, after the two met at the horse races in Fredericksburg, Texas. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and friends. Gary was a father to his daughters, Kim Scheidle and Tami Church, and to his son Leon Cutsinger, who preceded him in death in 1998 at the age of 30, and his daughter, Kenndra Cutsinger, and son, Kendrick “Cutty” Cutsinger, who preceded him in death in 2010 at the age of 20.
Gary’s greatest joy was his family. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Ryan, Brittani who preceded him death in 1993, Ashton, Preston, Elizabeth, Dylan, Brennon, Brooke, Ally, and Claire and was also blessed with six great-grandchildren.
Gary loved hunting, fishing, and country western dancing. He was known for his larger-than-life presence, football career, and love for those around him. Whether on the football field, at a construction site, or surrounded by family and friends, Gary lived with strength, determination, and heart.
Gary Leon Cutsinger leaves behind a legacy of family, devotion, and love that will live on through all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
