George Wayne “Arky” Broyles was born on January 5, 1934, in Woodson, Texas, to John Ben and Geraldine Hughes Broyles. He passed peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Marble Falls, Texas.
From an early age, Dad carried a quiet strength and a steadfast spirit. He was a proud athlete, playing football at Rankin High School and McMurry College, before earning his degree from Texas Tech University in 1962. He had an accomplished career as a mechanical engineer with Exxon, from which he retired in 1986.
Dad’s greatest adventures were shared with his devoted wife of more than 70 years, Bobbie. Together, they spent more than three decades exploring North America in their RV — partners in every sense, discovering new places, meeting new friends, and cherishing the freedom of the open road.
Family was the heart of Dad’s life. He found joy in long talks with his siblings, children, and grandchildren, always ready with a story and a laugh. His strength anchored our family through life’s hardest moments, and that same strength continues to guide us even now.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie; daughters Deborah Barker and Teresa Mathews; son David Broyles; son-in-law Steve Barker; daughter-in-law Shellie Broyles; his four grandchildren and their spouses and his twelve great-grandchildren — each a source of immense pride and joy.
He is also survived by his siblings, Norma Lee Schreiber, Charles Broyles, Mary Scarborough, Sandy Allison, Linda Reichle, and Claud Ridgway, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Ben Broyles Jr., and his sisters Shirley Hearon and Rachel Phillips.
Though Dad may no longer walk beside us, his presence endures. He may be gone from sight, but he will never be forgotten.
A funeral service for George will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Lake Shores Church, 704 Hwy 281 N, Marble Falls, TX.
