June 15, 1922 – August 14, 2012
On June 15, 1922, Perry and Myrtle Hughes welcomed a son they named Jack Richard in Abilene, Texas. He lived in the Baird area until he was in third grade when his family moved to Kennedy, Texas. Jack was baptized when he was seven years old in the Baptist faith, where he remained until his death.
He was married to Jessie Benard on December 26, 1942. To this marriage was born Bobby in 1944, Ricky in 1950 and Jeanne in 1954.
Jack was in education for 40 years until his retirement and lived on Lake LBJ until his health made him move to Chilton in 1999. Jack made sure he made all the football games he could, sitting on the sidelines and sending words of encouragement to the coaches, especially when he thought they were wrong.
For his 90th birthday, he wanted to go to Florida and see Bobby and Michele one last time. Ricky and Twala took him and they all had a ball. It was after their return Jack had an accident that would eventually lead to his death on August 14, 2012.
Jack is survived by his sons Bobby Hughes & wife Michele and Ricky Hughes & wife Twala, and his daughter Jeanne Roberts, grandchildren: James & wife Jessa, Donna Barkley & husband Chad, Keith & wife Theresa, David, and Cameron, great grandchildren: Erin, Kelti, Megan & husband Kevin, Ashton & husband Scott, Christopher & wife Nicole, Katie, Ryan, Maddie, MacKenzie, MacKayla, MacKeely, and Rebekah and great-great grandchildren: Blaze and Braxon.
