Janis attended schools in Alice, Texas and later in Mathis, Texas, where her father ran a machinery parts store. It was there she met the love of her life, Luther Troell. They married when she was 18 years old and have celebrated a very full life for over fifty years. From Texas to New York to Dubai and back again, they had many adventures, but the biggest was their family of four daughters and nine grandchildren. Janis was a loving mother and grandmother and would often say her “babies” were her greatest accomplishment.
Janis loved to travel, whether it was far and exotic or just a drive through the country. She was an artist, having painted many lovely oil paintings, and she could find beauty anywhere she looked. She collected antiques and even had her own store for several years in Rochester, NY. Mostly, though, she loved people. Janis never met a stranger, and people loved her quick smile and her stories.
Janis is survived by her husband of 52 years, Luther Troell, and her four daughters and their husbands: Tracy and Butch, Tina and Fern, Tarissa and Matthew, and Toni and Gary. She leaves behind her nine grandchildren: Reagan, Elijah, Declan, Justin, Duane, Keeley, Julia, Josie and Nolan. She also leaves behind her brother David Dunn and sister Karen Wilburn, along with numerous loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service honoring Janis will be held at Clement-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 21 at 11 am. The family wishes to thank everyone who has been there with love and support through this difficult time.
