It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Jean Ebeling. Jean was born on April 29, 1929 to John and Mary Kiger and passed away at 97 years of age. Jean's life was a testament to hard work, pragmatism, and dedication to her ranch.
Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert L Ebeling, and dear granddaughter, Paige Marie Ebeling. She leaves behind a loving family who will remember her fondly: her son Robert Ebeling, Jr., daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, daughter Nancy Ebeling, grandson Robert Ebeling III, his wife, Ruth, with great-granddaughters Eve and Cora, and granddaughter Tara Lyon, her husband, Micheal.
Known for her pragmatic approach to life, Jean was a hardworking rancher who loved the land and the animals she cared for, sharing her extensive knowledge of animal husbandry with those around her. Gardening was a passion that brought her immense satisfaction.
One of Jean's most remarkable achievements was being the first female to be accepted into the Luther Burbank F.F.A., setting a precedent and paving the way for many women who followed in her footsteps. It was through the Houston Fat Stock Show (now known as the Houston Livestock Show) that she met her love and soulmate, Robert L. Ebeling of Burnet County. Robert and Jean were well known for their registered angora goats and registered angus cattle. She was asked to judge the Australian Angora Goat Championship in Sydney and while there met Princess Anne. She had a passion for writing and wrote a monthly article in the “On The Ranch” magazine depicting everyday life on the ranch. She later wrote three books. Two were on detailing how to raise angora goats, as well as the raising and care of Anatolian guard dogs. She is also accredited to writing a children's book. Jean's life was full of meaningful work, love for her family, and a deep attachment to the land she worked on. We mourn her loss but celebrate the remarkable life she lived Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
