Jerry Ray Dunn

Jerry was born in Amherst, Texas on January 26, 1934, to Herbert E. and Jewell Crowell Dunn. His family moved to Littlefield, Texas where he graduated from Littlefield High School. After serving in the Navy in Japan for 2 years, he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and earned a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration in Accounting. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. It was at Texas Tech that he met his wife, Mary Alice Richardson from Snyder, Texas, and they later married on June 14, 1959. They honeymooned at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, which began a lifetime of traveling the world together. Some of their favorite trips were to Alaska, Australia, several trips to Europe, and very many cruises. They have wonderful memories from around the world.

Jerry and Mary Alice lived in Lubbock for 7 years where their three children were born. Jerry worked at Lubbock National Bank, then the City of Lubbock as Director of Finance. Jerry then took a position with the city of Wichita Falls as Assistant City Manager. The family lived there for 6 years. In 1974, the family moved to Clear Lake City (Houston) as Assistant General Manager with the Gulf Coast Authority, an environmental water treatment agency. The children grew up in Houston, then all went to Texas Tech University for their degrees.

Jerry retired in 1999 and they moved to Mary Alice’s family farm until their house was built in Horseshoe Bay. Also, they had a house in Breckenridge, Co. from 1996 to 2004. They enjoyed Breckenridge in the summer for golf, biking, and entertaining family and friends. In the winter, they celebrated Christmas there and then skied there in the spring. Jerry and Mary Alice moved to Horseshoe Bay in 2004. They have appreciated this community and also the Church of Horseshoe Bay, where Jerry served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Seekers SS class.

Jerry was an avid golfer, and also loved hunting. He enjoyed deer hunting at Harper, Tx. and elk hunting in Colorado. He also hunted rattlesnakes in Snyder with brother-in-law, Max von Roeder and other friends. Jerry was also known for his avid love for all Texas Tech sports, he truly loved his Red Raiders.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Alice, having recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. He leaves as his legacy his three children: Grant Dunn (and Susan George) of Fort Collins, Co; Spencer (and Meg) Dunn of Missouri City, Tx: Libby Dunn (and Pat) Burgess of Dallas, Tx; also, grandchildren: Madison and Sloan Dunn of Missouri City, Tx, and Jewell and Georgia Dunn of Dallas, Tx; and niece, Kara (and Richie) Rosen of Lubbock, Tx.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. Dunn and Jewell Crowell Dunn; also his sister Nina Dunn Copeland and her husband Bob Copeland, and son, Ken Copeland.

A Memorial Service will be at The Church at Horseshoe Bay on Sept. 12, at 2:00 pm. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family is grateful for all the prayers and support from friends and family.
