Jim Williard Tapp, Jr., aged 81, was peacefully promoted to Heaven on September 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in an impromptu service of prayer, worship, and blessing. Born on July 16, 1945, in El Campo, Texas, to Jim Willard Tapp, Sr. and Clara Marie Tapp, Jim lived a remarkably full life anchored by a brilliant mind, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an unwavering love for the Lord and his family.
Jim met the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Marsh, at Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas. They attended the University of Texas together and were married in January of 1967. Jim loved Dorothy fiercely and deeply for over 60 beautiful years, building a family and a lifetime of shared adventures.
An exceptionally talented electrical engineer, Jim began his career at USI Chemicals (which became Robertson Terminals) in Deer Park, Texas. He later joined the Dutch firm Paktank Corporation, ultimately rising to become the President of their United States division. His corporate leadership extended globally, where he served on the boards of 23 affiliated corporations, traveling the world and always bringing back treasures from afar for his family.
In his late 30s, Jim chose to hang up his global traveling hat to reinvent himself as a serial entrepreneur. He founded the environmental consulting firm Profit Engineer, Inc., and partnered with a close friend to form Trophy Seekers, a business connecting big game hunters with prime hunting land. He lent his expertise as an independent consultant to numerous large environmental companies throughout the Houston area. In his 40s, he and Dorothy co-founded Bluebonnets Etc., a thriving interior design and home décor business in the Champions area. For 16 years, they poured their creativity into helping clients transform their homes before closing the shop in the late 1990s to enjoy a well-deserved season of travel, beach trips, and cherished days at the family deer lease in Ottine, Texas.
Eventually, Jim and Dorothy followed their daughters west to the Texas Hill Country, settling onto a beautiful 10-acre homestead on top of a high hill overlooking the Blanco River Valley in Wimberley, Texas. Over the next 20 years, this property became the heart of the Tapp family clan. It was a haven where his grandchildren loved to explore, swim in the pool, ride the John Deere Gators, play hide-and-seek, and gather on the expansive front porch. Jim loved working outdoors, using his tractor and chain saws to push over cedar trees and meticulously shape his property to look just like a park.
Jim truly lived life to the fullest in every single moment. He had a passion for motorcycles, four-wheelers, tractors, fast cars, big trucks, and sailboats. He was a master storyteller who loved sharing history lessons, shooting skeet, and organizing memorable outings with dear friends. Above all else, Jim loved his family and loved the Lord. While he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the absolute certainty that he is with his Savior—no doubt having an amazing time in Heaven on his tractor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Tapp; his two devoted daughters and sons in-law, Kayla Dawn and Ray Walter, and Amy Lynn and Kevin Payne; his blessed generation of grandchildren, Ava Venegas (and husband Christian), Avrielle Walter, Anthony Walter, Kyler Payne (and wife Amanda), Logan Payne, and Noah Frederick; and his great-grandchild, Kade Payne.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
