John P. Monahan, Jr. died on November 20, 2013, at his home in Horseshoe Bay. John was born on July 25, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of John P. Monahan and Geraldine Connelly. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Gayle of 40 years, their three children Sean and his wife Amy of Olivebridge, NY, Kristen Lovelace and her husband Mark of Oklahoma City, OK and John Ames, Jr. of Dexter, MI. Also surviving are two grandchildren Morgan Monahan of Portland, OR and Meredith Lovelace of Austin, TX. and two sisters Patricia Monahan, CSJ and Judy Monahan of Mount Vernon, NY.
John served in the Army in Korea 1951-1952. Upon discharge he attended Fordham University where he received a BS in Philosophy and a BBA in Accounting. He then joined the Union Carbide Corporation and while working he received an MBA in Finance/Economics from New York University. In addition, he continued extensive studies in the Behavioral Sciences. John spent 30 years with the Union Carbide Corporation where he had numerous domestic and international assignments becoming Corporate Director of Human Resources. While working for Union Carbide he also spent five years as an Adjunct Professor in the evening undergraduate and graduate schools of the University of Connecticut.
Upon retirement John returned to Union Carbide as a consultant for a year. Completing that assignment he joined Michael Simon Associates, human resources consulting firm specializing in corporate reorganizations and downsizing, as Senior Vice President. In addition, he often served as a visiting speaker at many universities and professional groups both domestically and internationally.
John loved sports as player, coach and instructor in a number of sports from entry leagues to semi-pro. John was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Horseshoe Bay and expresses his thanks for the many masses and prayers that were offered for him. His family would like to express their thanks to the people of Girling Hospice, and especially Vicki Thompson, for their wonderful help and support during his illness.
A Memorial Service in memory of John will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 9:00 A.M. A reception will follow at the Quail Point Community Center.
