Kevin Todd Lawdermilk

A jack of all trades and master of many, KT squeezed as much life as he possibly could into the amount of time he was given on this earth.

Growing up in rural West Texas, Kevin’s friends have shared stories that make us all glad, for Kevin’s sake, that smart phones and the ability to take pictures weren’t around back then. A natural athlete, Kevin played football for a short stint at Texas Tech before he committed to running track for the Marines. Unfortunately for Kevin, he never saw an oval track and somehow wound up in the Marine Corps basic training behind a tank track. A high achiever by nature, he tied the shooting record during basic training before leaving the military. He earned his degree in Commercial Diving and Marine Construction from the School of Oceaneering before beginning his career as a commercial diver.

From working on oil rigs hundreds of feet deep and miles offshore to cleaning out narrow pipes in pitch-black darkness beneath the muddy waters of the mighty Mississippi River, Kevin did work most people don’t even know exists. After having children, son Mitch and daughter Baylee, the dangers of the job and those long stretches away from his family and home began to take its toll.

A self-made man who was never afraid of hard work, Kevin set his sights on his next endeavor: becoming a world-champion horse trainer and a world-class farrier. Through relentless determination and countless hours of hard work, he achieved that goal, earning the opportunity to work with some of the most prized horses in the world, but Kevin was never one to rest on his accomplishments.

Before long, he was setting his sights on the next challenge and the next goal to conquer.

A water bug his entire life, Kevin first settled into a home near Lake Ray Roberts. But with the visionary spirit that defined him—and knowing some of his closest family had a place in the Hill Country—Kevin soon found his way here. He knew the area well, as he’d grown up attending family reunions in Granite Shoals and Marble Falls. Combining his commercial diving knowledge, metal fabrication and welding skills with his construction know-how, he built his first boat dock for his own personal property. As luck would have it, his neighbor needed a dock as well. Then a friend across the lake needed one. Working alone from a modified pontoon boat, aptly named Tom Sawyer, the early beginnings of KT Waterfront Construction were born.

During this chapter in his life, Kevin split his time between his farrier work in North Texas and Lake LBJ. This is when he met the love of his life, Kathleen Marie. Together, Kevin and Kathy built KT Waterfront into a thriving business that has proudly served Central Texas and the Highland Lakes area for more than 15 years.

He turned a simple idea into a lasting enterprise that spanned the nation. KT quickly became a name known for quality, craftsmanship and reliability. His work eventually expanded well beyond dock building, venturing into multiple successful businesses. But for Kevin, success was never about reaching the finish line. It was about the pursuit.

With his tenacious spirit, and inability to turn down a challenge, a 4th of July bet introduced Kevin to what would become his latest passion: golf. True to Kevin’s nature, he never did anything halfway. Before long, he made The Legends Golf Course his second home with his sights set on the PGA Senior Tour.

Kevin was a man of deep faith and an active member of Life Family Church in Marble Falls. After a mission trip to Central America, he discovered a passion for serving others. Incorporating his exceptional artistry into his faith, he began a personal mission of building crosses in communities abroad. He even envisioned building the tallest cross in the world.

Kevin never met a stranger. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need—his generosity knew no bounds. He was hardworking, relentless, adventurous and competitive. Talented and joyful, with a playful spirit—and yet ornery as all get out, Kevin was always looking for the next challenge, the next adventure, and a new way to make life more interesting. But perhaps what people will remember most was the light he brought with him. His laughter, his mischievous spirit, and his genuine love for people had a way of making everyone around him feel a little more alive. Above all, Kevin loved his family fiercely and lived his life on his own terms.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Marie Lawdermilk; his son Mitchell Todd Lawdermilk, wife Victoria Elise Lawdermilk, grandchildren Axel Todd Lawdermilk, Kane Stone Lawdermilk, Baker Krew Lawdermilk, and McCoy Beck Lawdermilk; his daughter Baylee Sheigh Girty, husband Peyten Lee Girty, grandson Stetson Lee Girty; his stepsons, Monty Aaron Chambers, wife McKenzie Jo Chambers, grandsons Barrett Glenn Chambers and Deaton Cole Chambers, and Justin Michael Chambers, wife Amanda Esther Chambers, granddaughter Olivia Rose Chambers; his mother Marcia June Morton; his sister, Tamara Leigh Corrales, husband Gregory Sean Corrales, his nephews Hayden Bailye Corrales and Brennan “Beau” Tiege Corrales; aunts Ellen Pearl Fegett and Retta Joyce Morris; as well as many cousins, extended family members, friends and cherished loved ones. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Dwayne Morris and his cousin, Saundra “Shorty” Garrett.

Kevin leaves behind an incredible legacy—not only in the business he built, the people he mentored, and the work of his hands, but in the lives of the people he loved and helped along the way. He will be dearly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
