Laurie was a beloved spouse, mother, traveling companion, and friend. Laurie married Robert Muir on August 13th, 1988 in San Antonio, Texas and the two were happily married for over 36 years. Life-long world travelers, the two sparked their relationship while on a vacation with family and friends snow skiing in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Over the next 35 plus years, the two were inseparable and would travel to many places together including: Iceland, Alaska, New Zealand, National Parks across the U.S., Grayton Beach, and the New Mexico Balloon Festival. Laurie gave birth to her only child, Dustin, on December 24th, 1989. While she had always dreamed of having a larger family, Laurie poured every ounce of her love, wisdom, and care into raising Dustin. She devoted herself to being the best mother she could be. Some of Laurie’s greatest joys came from being surrounded by her loved ones. Family get-togethers, especially the large Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, were highlights of her year. To her, these were more than just holidays they were celebrations of family, love, and the precious connections that make life so rich.
Laurie graduated from Churchill high school in 1979 and was a proud member of the Lancer Dancers. After marrying Robert and moving to the DFW area in Texas, she was an assistant controller for a property management company before moving to Austin. Laurie’s career took on a new chapter when she started her own bookkeeping business, a decision that allowed her the flexibility to manage her health challenges with grace. Over the years, Laurie worked with many clients, but what she cherished most were the friendships she formed along the way. For Laurie, it wasn’t just about the work, it was about the connections, the conversations, and the lasting bonds that went beyond business. She always viewed her clients as more than just people she worked with; as she would say, they were really just great friends. Even when her health forced her to move on from the business, she only became comfortable doing so by leaving her clients in the hands of someone she trusted.
Laurie was an incredibly generous soul, always giving of herself in meaningful ways. Whether it was through volunteering her time in countless leadership roles within her son’s sports teams or simply offering a listening ear, she made everyone around her feel valued and heard. Laurie had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, always taking the time to talk through life’s challenges and offering comfort. Her presence will be deeply missed, as will her radiant smile and the playful, silly voices that never failed to bring laughter. But above all, Laurie will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, never expecting anything in return. Her kindness and genuine care for others left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Laurie is survived by her mother, Joyce Perri (Anders); husband, Robert Muir; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Jessica Muir; grandson, Wesley Muir; sister, Vickie Reilly (Bubba); cherished nieces and nephews as well as many more family and friends. Laurie is preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Donald and Dottie Anders; and step-father, Frank Perri.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Vickie Reilly and Contessa Weinheimer for their time, love, and dedication to Laurie as caregivers. Laurie was incredibly fortunate to have both of you in her life, and your unwavering friendship and care were a source of comfort and strength for her.
