Maurice Docherty

August 7, 1955July 29, 2020

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, Maurice (Moe) Docherty passed to life eternal at the age of 64.

Maurice was born on August 7, 1955 in Glasgow, Scotland to Maurice and Mary Docherty. He was one of 6 brothers and sisters, whom he loved dearly. Maurice and his family relocated to Blackpool, England, where he lived until he moved to Horseshoe Bay in the mid 1980’s. In 1987, he married Julie Stice and they raised two sons, Logan and Connor Docherty.

Maurice had a strong passion for life that was driven by his love for friends and family. He took great joy from visiting with locals and tourists as they visited his restaurants and bars over the years. He was always prepared to entertain with a story or joke, and he truly cared about the well-being of all that he came into contact with. He enjoyed supporting his local community and was a big fan of Marble Falls ISD athletic events, as his sons were active participants. When not working or spending time with family, he could usually be found at the Texas coast as he loved to fish and watch boats of all sizes set sail and return to harbor. Maurice would tell you that his biggest joy over the past few years, was spending time with his 2 grandchildren, James and Charlotte. They had a special relationship and they affectionately referred to him as “Mo-Mo”. Maurice had the ability to make sure you felt loved by him. He is resting now knowing that all who cared for him, certainly loved him too.

Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Mary Docherty, his brother-in-law George McCann, and his sister-in-law Jackie Docherty . He is survived by by his two sons, Logan (Maggie) and Connor (Amira), his grandchildren James and Charlotte, his brothers Frank, Stephen (Jacquelin), Kevin (Andrea), and his sisters Mary, and Ann (George)

The family is preparing for a private memorial in the coming days. A larger memorial service for his many friends will be arranged in the future, when it is safe to do so due to COVID-19. Information will be shared when that time comes. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family is asking for donations to be made to St. Judes Children Hospital in his name. Maurice has arranged for a donation to be made in his name, and he would be pleased to see more be sent to that organization.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all who have been concerned, offered support, provided prayers, and have shared memories during this difficult time. Maurice was certainly loved by so many across the world, and he undoubtedly loved everyone back.

Steve and I met Mo whilst visiting friends in Austin. We spent lots of days and evenings in his company. What a lovely, funny and friendly character. He took us in his sports car to a golf club he previously managed..one fantastic night! When we returned to the UK we kept in touch, and met up again on following visits, great memories. We are so devistated by his passing. Our thoughts and sincerest condolences go to his family and his many many friends 💔🙏

Moe was a legend in the Horseshoe Bay area from the Board walk to the Hole in One. I met him in 1997, introduced by my late friend Sam Martin. It turns out we had met many moons before in Blackpool. It is a small world. Much missed and the end of an era. Sweet dreams my old buddy

God bless you, my friend. All who knew you will miss you. I remember the first time I was introduced to you in your bar, Marty McFly’s, July 2000, in Horseshoe Bay - I’d just arrived there from cruise contracts - and discovered we both knew many of the same people back in Blackpool. Mad, eh? Many great memories over the years - the time you were going back to the UK at Christmas and I wasn’t, so you offered to take my family’s Christmas cards and knocked on my Mum’s door on Boxing Day to deliver them! Too soon, you’re not here. We’ll all miss you. My sincere, deepest, condolences to your family, in Texas and the UK - Scotland and Blackpool. RIP Maurice Docherty. Love you, Dude.

When my step-mother and father passed away 3 mos. apart Moe was there to console me. We were new to the area and didn't really know anyone. On especially hard days I would pop in to visit Moe at the restaurant. He would always make sure I was seated next to him at the bar and had a good drink (strong sometimes...he he he) on hand. Moe really was such a big-kind hearted person. So funny and genuine. I don't think I will ever meet a soul like him again. Thank you Moe for helping me during my worst times and being my friend.

Mo was my big cousin and I have brilliant memories of spending many family holidays at his mum and dad’s hotel in Blackpool. I always looked up to and admired Mo and his brothers and sisters ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ The night after Frank’s wedding we went to an Italian restaurant in Blackpool and we filled the whole top floor . Mo sat with us girls and we loved hearing all his stories about living in Texas. In our family , it doesn’t matter how many miles separate us because we all have a special bond . Sleep tight Mo , love you lots 💔❤️

Moe was my brother in law and I have so many memories. The special memories for me were when he arrived unannounced on a big family trip in Cornwall. I’m so happy that we all had that time together x my children, nieces and nephews, and the rest of the family still talk about the amazing time we all had with him . We all loved his character and spirit and will think of him and miss him always . God love you moe 💔😘

It was my privilege to meet Mo at Sean's wedding in Cumbria, and later back at Mary's house in Blackpool.
Mo was a man of stature, great entertainment, and enjoyed a game of golf or tennis trying his hardest to beat brother's and Nephew's alike should they be on opposing sides.
May you look down on us Mo, guide us through the future and rest in peace.
