Luana “Michaelyn” Thompson Atkinson, 78, of Marble Falls, Texas, slipped softly into Heaven at sunrise on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, surrounded by her family after a year of holding tight through the twists and turns of the roller-coaster of endometrial cancer.
Michaelyn was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 6, 1947, just 29 minutes after her twin sister, Pat. She grew up in Devine and later Kerrville, graduating from Tivy High School in 1965. She attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and met the love of her life, Mike Atkinson. They were married on December 14, 1968, and shared 56 years together, just days short of celebrating their 57th anniversary.
Mike and Michaelyn moved to Marble Falls in 1976, where they joined First Baptist Church and raised their family. Michaelyn taught kindergarten for 20 years and helped start the preschool program at the church. She had a gift for hospitality and made everyone feel welcome, cared for, and at home. She loved Christmas and all the traditions that came with it. This year, she was able to celebrate Thanksgiving surrounded by her family, and Mike made sure their home was decorated for Christmas so she could enjoy every light and memory.
Michaelyn supported and loved Mike faithfully and served her family, her church, and her community with kindness and grace.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Atkinson; her children, Jennifer Wyble (Dale) of Waco, Texas, and Ryan Atkinson and Kari Atkinson of Marble Falls, Texas; and her three grandsons, Jayson, Will, and Colin Wyble, who were the joy of her life. She is also survived by extended family and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Worth and Virgie Thompson, and her twin sister, Pat Thompson.
Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91:1–2:
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
