of 82. Milton was born in Comfort, Texas, on August 27, 1939, son of Eddie and Helen Dietert.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Diane Dietert and his parents. Milton
was survived by brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Sandi Dietert, of Arlington, Texas; sisters,
Ann Dietert of Boerne, Texas and Allene Porter of Bellville, Texas; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Suzanne Presley and Ed Presley, of Port Lavaca, Texas; sister-in-law, Fern
Hibbard; 11 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and a host
of friends, all of whom will remember Milton with love.
Milton served his country in the Army Reserves from 1962 through 1968, receiving an
Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, in 1968. He graduated from the University of Texas at
Austin, in June, 1962, with a degree in Civil Engineering. During his long and distinguished
career with Texas Highway Department that began during his college years in the Boerne Area
office, Milton served, among other positions, as Area Engineer of the South Bexar County office;
District Traffic Engineer in the San Antonio District; Chief Engineer of Safety and Maintenance
for the State of Texas, in Austin; and culminating his 35 year career, as District Engineer for the
Houston District, from which he retired in 1995. Following retirement from TxDOT, he worked for
Structural Metals, Inc., Seguin, Texas, for five years, on the development of concrete pavement
designs. Milton was a member of several engineering organizations and was the recipient of the
prestigious Luther DeBerry Award in 1989, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the
State of Texas, in the field of transportation.
In 1960, Milton and his college room-mate, Graeme Weaver, visited Graeme's family home in
Toronto, Canada, where Milton met Graeme's sister, Diane. Three years later, on June 29, 1963,
Milton and Diane were married in Toronto in a double wedding with Graeme and his fiancée,
Fern Eade.
Milton loved his wife, Diane, his family, his country, the Texas Highway Department and the
University of Texas Longhorns. He and Diane attended as many UT games as they could over
the years and missed very few others if they were televised. They enjoyed life after retirement
traveling by themselves or with close friends, or staying home at their Lake LBJ home "The
Milton Hilton" where they loved entertaining family and friends. Milton also enjoyed building
furniture, fixing anything mechanical that needed fixing and helping out around the
neighborhood. He and Diane were members of the Church at Horseshoe Bay.
This quiet, talented and unassuming man will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held January 8, 2022, at the Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Rd, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657, at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception for friends and family.
