Ricky graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1978. He was a member of the National Honor Society and excelled in track and football. After graduation, he attended Texas A&M University earning a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1981. After graduating, Ricky joined his father and brother Joby in their family business, Huffman Plumbing in Marble Falls, Texas.
Ricky was a proud member of several organizations that reflect his values of faith, camaraderie, and fellowship. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, GRA-Trails Trail Riders, The Emmaus Group (where he was in charge of the 4 am Coffee Prep), Friday Morning Prayer Group at the Bluebonnet Café, and Saturday Morning Men’s Group at Storms. He will deeply be missed by all.
He shared his love of watching the Aggies play football with his family. His sister Marcie remembers him coming to get her out of the stands and taking her to the student section to be part of the 12th man. She loved getting to hang out with her big brother and his friends and being included in the fun.
In 1992, Ricky married the love of his life Shannon O’Brien. Together they raised two beautiful children, as well as impacting the lives of many children throughout the community. They enjoyed life with their horses, dogs, demon cats, and turkeys. Their favorite pass time included spending time on trial rides with their trusty steeds, Gray-Bo & RC Slocum, as well as spending time with family at the river. Once they became grandparents it added an additional level of fun and love to their lives. They enjoyed the freedom of being those “permissive” grandparents, until Shannon’s passing in 2013. Matt and Sis only ever had water and milk in the house growing up. Ricky always kept bacon and Dr. Pepper in the house for Saige. Being Opa to his grandchildren was one of the greatest joys and honors of his life.
Known for his trademark mullet and work boots, Ricky was quite the unique person. He rather enjoyed sitting with his brothers-in-law’s and picking on their wives; he could spin quite the inventive offense when it came to Shannon and the sisters. He and Brian could go for hours picking away while Jeff, Allen, Ron, and Matt enjoyed the show!
Ricky was a very private person and never wanted anyone to worry about him. However, he was always the first one to jump in and lend a helping hand, give assistance, and was at heart a true protector. Joby remembers Ricky stepping in front of a German Shepherd when they were small children and taking the bite to protect Joby; that was Ricky in a nutshell.
Even towards the end of his life, Ricky would text his family and friends to check in on them to see how they were doing. All while trying to protect his loved ones from worrying about him, Classic Ricky.
Ricky is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shannon Bell as well as his father-in-law, Odie O’Brien. He is survived by his children, Matthew Ray & Kayla Huffman, Christina Huffman-Smith & Justin Smith as well as the child of his heart, Sager Parsons. Also surviving Ricky are his siblings, Joby Huffman & Reina Shaw and Marcie “Marzie” & James Norman.
Ricky leaves behind cherished years with his final partner Cappy Houston along with his favorite people in the entire world, his grandchildren: Taylor Everhart, Saige Huffman & Tuff Lee, Halleigh Huffman, Odin Huffman, Sara Cotton & Brenden Cotton, and Myla Bell Smith. Great Grandchildren: Sylis Barton, Greysen Cotton, Aspen Cotton, and Carsen Cotton.
As if this were not enough people loving him, Ricky also leaves his O’Brien sisters & brothers, his mother-in-law, Sally O’Brien, and way too many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. You get the idea of how many people loved Ricky.
He will be missed forever and remembered always, but through his life of faith and devotion the family finds comfort knowing he is in the paradise prepared for him by our Lord and met at the pearly gates by his Shanni Bell.
Funeral Services for Ricky will be held on Friday June 26, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Marble Falls. Visitation will be at 11:00am. Service to be held at 12:00pm with the burial immediate following at Marble Falls City Cemetery.
