Robert Lee Woodard entered heaven on April 11, 2019, at the age of 92, surrounded by his wife and daughter, looking forward to seeing his Lord and Savior. The Woodard’s had been living with their daughter in Coppell since May 2018 and he passed away in neighboring Lewisville, Texas. He was born in Coleman, Texas, on June 30, 1926, to Bessie Lou (Thomas) and Henderson Allen Woodard. He and his brother Harold helped his father on their farm and doing carpentry work. Robert learned a lot from his father and an older bachelor that taught him how to do everything right the first time or he had to do it over until it was right.

He was drafted in to the Army during World War II and served at Fort Sam Houston and Sheppard Field in Texas. He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945.

Robert and Norma Cummings met while she was still at Coleman High School. After their first date he told his mother that he was going to marry her, and they did on May 2, 1948, almost 71 years ago. They married at the Coleman home of her parents Raymond Fredrick Cummings and Linnie Grace Rutledge and were blessed with daughters Linda Gayle in 1950, Marsha Lee who was stillborn in 1953, and Ginger Ann in 1955.

Robert was saved and baptized at Central Baptist Church in Coleman two weeks after they were married. According to his wife he didn’t have to change his life much because he was a good kid anyway. He was faithful to his church and they saw to it that their daughters were in Sunday School and Church each week. They attended First Baptist and Fellowship Church Marble Falls for many years and were active members of the Senior Center. Robert called Bingo and enjoyed many games of “42” and dominoes throughout his life.

In the late 1950’s Robert struck out on his own and built and remodeled many homes in the Coleman area. After a visit to the Highland Lakes, he decided to move the family to Highland Haven in 1965, building homes for others and 3 for his family over the years. No advertisement was needed. People sought him out as word spread of his integrity and quality of work. On one occasion he was to remodel a home and the owners trusted him enough to give him the keys to do the job and left for Colorado. They were well pleased upon their return home. In the late 1960’s he taught Building Trades at Marble Falls High School for several years, trying to pass along his carpentry skills to his students. He had a few students come by the house years after that to thank him for teaching them a trade they could use for years to come.

Robert loved the game of golf and he and his teacher golfing buddies would occasionally head out to the golf course after school. Watching golf and football on TV was a favorite pastime. Even though he was troubled with a bad back, he and Norma enjoyed many years of traveling around the country in their travel trailer and meeting new people. They moved in to Marble Falls later to be close to his aging mother, church and senior activities.

He is survived by his wife Norma Jean; daughter Ginger & Steve Rogers of Coppell, Texas; grandsons Kyle Rogers & wife Kristin of Roanoke, Texas; Eric Rogers of Dallas; Kurt Rogers & wife Sierra of Dallas. Robert is predeceased by his oldest daughter, Linda Gayle Alexander, who passed away February 2015. He is survived by her daughters Jana Davies & children Abrianna & Kaden; Megan Theberge & children Orin, Trysten and Jocelynn; Courtney & Randy Mize and children Nathan, Mikaella and Vanessa; Dana Mule & sons Kyle, Justin, Shawn, Ryan; and grandson Morris McManigal & children Sarah, Liam and Mackena.

He is also predeceased by his father Henderson Allen Woodard in 1980; mother Bessie Lou (Thomas) Woodard in 2004; and brother Harold Woodard and wife Billie Jean.

Visitation is 9:30 am Saturday, April 20, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, with longtime friend Ken Flowers officiating the funeral service at 10:30. Pall bearers are Kyle Rogers, Eric Rogers, Kurt Rogers and Richard Cummings. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Coleman Cemetery, Kyle Rogers officiating.
