Sandra Dominey LaFon passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was born Sandra Ray Dominey on December 29, 1942, in Clayton, AL, the daughter of Joseph Ray Dominey and Mildred Sinquefield Dominey. After graduating from Baker High School in Columbus, GA in 1961, she had two children, Jeffrey Ray Kuester and Kimberly Kay Kuester, and then moved to Eufaula, AL, where she lived many of her 80 years.
Sandra was known for her enthusiastic attitude, joyous smile, beautiful singing voice, and bold faith in Jesus. She helped start a church in the Dominican Republic where many people knew and loved her as “Mama Sandra” because of her mission work there. Much of her life was hard and uncertain, especially raising small children with little money, but she never lost her faith or optimistic attitude. She was also generous, donating a kidney to her daughter Kim. For a woman small in stature, her faith was huge, and it went with her wherever she went.
As a faithful widow, Sandra was so grateful to be married to widower and retired minister Daniel John LaFon II of Marble Falls, TX, who took incredible care of her as her health declined quickly and unexpectedly. “For better or for worse, in sickness and in health” means something much deeper when you commit to provide long-term care for a spouse who is medically fragile, and Dan was her faithful companion through all the hospital and dialysis appointments during her final years, for which her family is extremely grateful.
Sandra was predeceased by her father, mother, and daughter. She is survived by her husband Dan LaFon, son Jeff Kuester (Pam), son-in-law Dennis Outlaw (Carla), grandchildren Brooks Kuester, Margaret Burnley (Will), Virginia Kuester, Sims Kuester, Joseph Kuester, Emily Outlaw Shirah (Keaton), great-granddaughter Rowan Parker Shirah, sister Ginger Dominey Millican (Dave), sister Connie Dominey Hartzog (Stewart), nieces and nephews James Key, Jason Hartzog (Shannon), Shanda Hartzog Davis (David), and Nicole Hartzog, great-nieces and nephews Noah Key, Eli Key, Carlee Davis, aunt Mary Williamson Duke, cousins Yvonne Edwards (Alan), Hannah Driver (Bryce), Meghan Edwards, Vicki Crew (Bob), Brandon Vann (Lauren), Andrew Vann, Bennett Vann, Valerie Vann-Rape (Kevin), Kinslee Rape, Brooks Rape, Kyle Crew, Kendall Crew (Colt), Wyatt Stephens.
