Vernon Thomas Billups was born in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on October 13, 1924 to parents Roy and Zella Billups. He married Wanetta Jones on May 13, 1948. Wanetta passed away in 1998, they were married 50 years.
Vernon is survived his by two daughters, Ann Brozek and husband Vaughn, who lived with him in his home in Granite Shoals, Texas, and Carolyn Black and husband Bill of Ft. Worth, Texas. He is also survived by step son Larry Jones Billups of Wantuga, Texas. He is also survived by 3 grandsons, Dr. Tony Brozek of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael Brozek of Ft. Worth, Texas and William Black of Houston, Texas, grand daughter, Surayleia Wilshire of Fort Worth, 4 great grand daughters, Lyndsy Mason, Brittany Aiken, Danielle Brozek and Audra Black and 3 great grandsons, Cole Wilshire, Shane Wilshire and Jacob Black. He is also survived by his sister, Velma Ott, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Vernon was a World War 2 veteran. He served 4 years in the Army Air Corp, stationed in England for 3 1/2 years.
Vernon retired from Amoco Productions in 1984, He worked in the South Cowden Field in Odessa, Texas for 32 years.
Vernon's hobbies included fishing, Bluegrass music and traveling to different locations in his R.V.
He was a very quiet and polite individual. He enjoyed entertaining relatives and friends in his R.V. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, you would definitely listen to what he had to say.
He loved wearing bright western shirts that his daughter, Ann, custom fitted and designed from the love of her heart. He took a lot of joy in telling everyone he met about his western fitted shirts.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, the funeral will be Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10:00 am at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls and interment at Marble Falls City Cemetery.
