William Boyd “Bill” Heffington, age 83, passed away at his home in Marble Falls, TX on Thursday, March 12, 2015. He was born May 17, 1931 to Ira Boyd and Beulah Beatrice Hays Heffington in Smithwick, TX. Bill graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1949 and on Valentine's Day of 1953, he married Ada Mae Harris of Bertram, TX. They were married 62 years.
Bill served in the US Army in South Korea from 1953 to 1954. After returning home, he and Adamoved to Houston, TX where he worked at the Shell Oil refinery. After a major layoff there, he becameinvolved in appliance sales and repair, and finished his careers in Houston as a supervisor and construction manager in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. During their 30 years in Houston, Bill and Ada made many friends and together raised their four children.
In 1983, they returned to Smithwick, TX and Bill and his brother, Lyndon worked together at Heffington Appliance in Marble Falls. Bill later branched off to own Bill Heffington Appliance and served the Burnet County area until he retired in 2008.
During his lifetime, Bill's interests included auto racing, fishing, deer hunting, playing 42, and live music, and he could repair any engine, big or small. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his and Ada's families and their own children and grandchildren. Many, who had no biological ties, called him “brother”, “dad”, “uncle” and “grandpa”, and he cherished them all; but most importantly, they all cherished him. He will be missed.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ada Mae; daughter Donna Kay and her husband Steve Palousek of Holland, TX; son Timothy Price Heffington and his wife, Melissa “Missy” of Houston, TX; son William Boyd Jr. “BJ” Heffington and his girlfriend, Bernadette Gallegos of Houston, TX; daughter Leslie Anna and her husband Scott Payne of Marble Falls, TX. He was the proud grandfather to Marshall, Mitchell and Maverick Payne, Bethany Heffington, Clayton and Ray Palousek, Austin Phelps and honorary grandchildren Sedrick and Jamail Malone. He is also survived by sister-in-law
Ruth Heffington of Marble Falls; sister Shirley and her husband Jack Rogers of Marble Falls, sister Pasty Gray of Waco, TX; brother Lesley Dwayne Heffington and his wife Betty of Kingland, TX; brother-in-law Junior Harris and his wife Nelda of Bertram, TX; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Beulah Heffington, brother Lyndon Heffington and brother-in-law Leonard Gray.
Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. Funeral service will be Monday, March 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Clements Wilcox with Scott Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Smithwick Cemetery.
