William Sadler

William King Sadler, 97, of Marble Falls, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 US-281, Marble Falls, Texas 78654.

William King “Bill” Sadler was born December 7, 1928, to C.K. and Currie Sadler, the fourth of six children. Bill married Barbara Jean Norman on December 25, 1949, and together they raised five children. They lived in Killeen for many years, where Bill built businesses in the sheet metal, air conditioning, ready-mix, and aggregate industries. Throughout their years in Killeen and later Marble Falls, Bill and Barbara were blessed with wonderful friendships, many of which became lifelong relationships and people who were like family.

Bill was larger than life in many ways - independent, determined, hardworking, and rarely afraid to try something new.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Bill began what would become a lifetime of entrepreneurship. He started Sadler Sheet Metal in Killeen and soon expanded into heating and air conditioning, excavation, commercial construction, and eventually the ready-mix and aggregate business.

In the mid-1960s, a large concrete project first brought Bill’s business to Marble Falls. He later founded Sadler Ready Mix in Killeen, which he and his brother Bob grew into a successful operation that included its own sand and gravel production. Over the years, Bill owned and operated seven sand and gravel plants throughout Central Texas, developing an extensive knowledge of the aggregate business that he would eventually pass on to the next generation.

Bill’s knowledge of and passion for the aggregate business became more than a career; it became part of his legacy. Four of his grandsons followed in his footsteps, building successful careers and businesses of their own in concrete, trucking, excavation, and related industries.

His grandsons were at his side from the time they were old enough to walk, learning by watching and, before long, climbing onto heavy equipment themselves often long before they were old enough to drive a vehicle. Bill taught them the way he knew best: by putting them to work beside him. He shared not only what he knew about equipment, dirt, rock, concrete, and business, but also the importance of hard work, resourcefulness, and taking pride in a job well done.

His grandson, Burt Wier, shared an especially close relationship with Bill, spending many years learning from and working alongside his grandfather. What Bill taught Burt and all of his grandsons went far beyond operating equipment or running a business. He passed along

knowledge earned over a lifetime and, in doing so, helped shape careers, businesses, and a family legacy that continues today.

In 1978, Bill sold his ready-mix business in Killeen, and he and Barbara moved to Marble Falls with their daughters, Luanne and Missy.

In 1990, Bill and his son David bought a couple of race-bred Quarter Horse mares, thinking they would raise a few foals as a hobby. After quickly discovering how expensive it was to send the mares elsewhere for breeding, they decided it made more sense to buy a stallion of their own. They advertised him in Track Magazine, and within a matter of weeks, 110 mares were booked for the upcoming breeding season.

What started as a hobby quickly became Sadler Horse Farm. Over the years, Bill, Barbara, and David raised more than 200 foals, with horses from their farm winning races throughout Texas and in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

Bill loved his businesses and took great pride in what he built over the years, but some of his greatest joys were found outside of work. He loved hunting deer and elk in Colorado and proudly maintained a 30-year tradition of making the trip. He also loved bringing everyone together over plates of fried catfish and hushpuppies, where good food and laughter were always in abundance. And when it came to dessert, nothing compared to Bill’s homemade Texas peach ice cream. These traditions reflected the man Bill was - a hardworking man who cherished the outdoors, took pride in doing things himself, and, above all, loved sharing life with the people who meant the most to him.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents, C.K. and Currie Sadler; and his brothers, Edwin and James. He is survived by his daughter Susan Atchison and husband Jerry of Round Mountain; son David Sadler and wife Julie of Marble Falls; son Jim Sadler; daughter Luanne Coleman and husband David of Johnson City; and daughter Missy Swift and husband Randall of Horseshoe Bay.

He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Fallan Sadler, Burt Wier, Drew Sadler, Bo Orman, Bill Wier, Ty Sadler, Bradley Wier, Callie Swift, Clayton Swift, and Cara Reents, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Burt Wier, Bill Wier, Bradley Wier, Ty Sadler, Drew Sadler, and Clayton Swift. Honorary pallbearers will be Texas State Representative Bradley Buckley, Stan Collier, Mark Fox, Derek Feil, James Maynard, Zachary Spaulding, Reid Walinder and Trey Salazar.
