On Sunday, January 23, 2022, Edward “Ed” Kovach, loving husband, and father of three children, passed away in Naples, Florida at the age of eighty-four. Ed was born to Mary and Steve Kovach in Cleveland, Ohio in 1937. He met the love of his life Sandra (Sandy) at a dance at the Slovenian Hall in 1957. They were married in 1960 and were inseparable for 61 years.
Ed loved his three children and their spouses - Pamela (husband Paul), Steven (wife Laura), and Jacqueline (husband Alan), and adored his four grandchildren Taylor, Isabella, Alexander and Andrew. He continuously made his family a priority, working overtime to provide special opportunities. Ed always took an interest in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities – coaching, traveling, and attending their events all over the country. He was so proud of his children and the grandchildren and said so many times how lucky he and Sandy were that everyone genuinely loved each other.
Ed played football and baseball as a young man and was an avid golfer his entire life. He genuinely loved watching sports, having attended the Masters, US Open and Ryder Cup championships. Ed was a long-suffering Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.
Ed was a friend to all, a gentle soul, a kind man, and a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father Steve, his mother Mary, a sister Patricia, and a granddaughter Taylor. He is survived by sisters Barbara Krane and Joanne Piechuta.
Rest In Peace My Dude! We all love you so much and will miss you dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4th, 2022, at 11am at San Marco Catholic Church in Marco Island, FL. In addition, Sandy will hold a celebration of life in Medina, Ohio on June 4, 2022, for all his northern friends and family. More details forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Cleveland Foundation for the Taylor Paige Ceepo Memorial Fund with this link https://bit.ly/taylorpaigeceepo. Ed’s granddaughter Taylor passed away unexpectedly in May 2019 while running the Cleveland half marathon.
