

Gene was born in Blawnox, Pennsylvania to Teresa Consolo and Giuseppe Costa, August 25, 1937. He was one of ten siblings. Gene graduated from Aspinwall High School on June 6, 1955 and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served on the battleship USS New Jersey. In July 1958, Gene became U.S. Navy-Reserve and enrolled in college that August. Gene married his lovely wife Catherina “Katie” Consolo on September 10, 1960 and began working for General Motors. During their early years of marriage, Gene graduated from Wayne State University in 1964. Together, Gene and Katie raised 5 children in the suburbs of Detroit, landing ultimately in Rochester, Michigan.
Gene had a distinguished 40-year career at General Motors, retiring as the Director of Finance, Global Operations at the age of 62. Afterwards, Gene and Katie established a second home on Marco Island where they created incredible memories with family and friends. They loved to travel the world together and Gene became an active community member. He served for many years as the treasurer of his HOA at Cape Marco. After Katie’s passing, Gene participated in the 60 mile walk for Susan G. Komen and the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. He also served as treasurer for St. Vincent DePaul. When Gene met Laura at the San Marco Church, they continued their shared passion for volunteering. Together they delivered Meals on Wheels and annually prepared Thanksgiving dinner for the underserved.
Gene is predeceased by Katie Consolo, his beloved wife of 50 years. He is survived by his five children: Cathi Consolo, Vince Consolo, Lisa Consolo, Toni Consolo and Jeanne Eyde; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and second wife Laura (Rothman) Consolo.
A Memorial Mass will be held at San Marco Catholic Church located at 851 San Marco Rd., Marco Island, FL Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 10:30 am. A memorial luncheon will be held at The Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, MI on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 11 am - 2 pm. Gene’s final resting place will be next to Katie at the White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
