Gerald Joseph Brosky

June 21, 1937June 21, 2018

Gerald Joseph Brosky, known to everyone as Jerry, passed from this life unexpectedly on Thursday, June 21, 2018 (his 81st birthday) on Marco Island, Florida.

Jerry was born in Jamaica, New York and enjoyed playing stick ball on the streets of Queens and fishing in Canarsie in Brooklyn. He was an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan until the team deserted the borough—then the New York Mets became his team.

Jerry served in the Army as a cook and would even use his own money to buy garlic and other seasonings to enhance the flavor of the food he served. This prepared him for the countless hours he spent cooking meals for the San Marco Knights of Columbus Fish Fries, Bingo, Spaghetti Dinner fundraisers and much more.

Jerry met the love of his life and wife, Hilda, on the subway after being properly introduced by a mutual friend. Hilda and Jerry have been married 56 years. They bought their first home in Syosset, New York where they raised their four children, Theresia, Karl, Mary and Paul. Jerry was in Sales and Marketing for Pfizer, Inc. for 45+ years before retiring. It was then that they moved to Marco Island where they have lived for the last 19 years.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, George Brosky, his mother Katherine, and younger brother William. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda, and his amazing children: Theresia Brech and her husband Jim; his son Karl and his wife Kerriann; Mary and her fiancé Jonathan Tisk; and his son Paul. He leaves behind loving memories in his wonderful grandchildren: Jessica Brech, Nichole Brech Walsh and her husband, Michael, Rebecca Brech, Ryan Brosky, Patrick Brosky, Amelia and Jeanette Tisk. Jerry is also survived by his older brother George and his wife, Nan, his sister-in-law Maureen Brosky and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Jerry’s love of God, Family, Church and Country was reflected in all he did. His sense of humor and love of life will be remembered by all. You could not be in his presence without becoming a friend. It seemed as if his life’s motto was to put a smile on everyone’s face.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, FL. Jerry will be interred in the parish Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in the parish hall where we will continue the celebration of his life and tell our “Jerry stories.”

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Little Flower Children Services of New York, 2450 N. Wading River Road, Wading River, NY 11792. Both these Saints have played a special role in Jerry’s life.

I met Jerry Brosky ( and Hilda) through their son Paul. I was invited sight unseen along with my late husband Eddie. The hospitality that they showed us was amazing. There was not enough Jerry could do for you. His warmth , sincerity , faith as well as his sense of humor were abounding. Long afternoons on the boat were part of his specialty. It was no doubt that after meeting several members of Jerry's family the depth of influence he had on them and his friends. May the love of God and of His son Jesus Christ enfold Jerry through eternity and may He bring solace and peace to his family and friends in the days ahead.
