

Born and raised in Long Island City in Queens, New York, John carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and compassion throughout his life. In 1956, he proudly joined the United States Army, serving his country honorably while stationed in Germany and France.
Following his military service, John continued his life of public service by joining the New York City Fire Department, where he served with courage and commitment for 30 years. He dedicated his career to protecting others, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, friends, and the community he served.
John built a loving home and family in Staten Island with his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol Ann Spizuoco (nee Techky). Together they created a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories before retiring to Marco Island in 1995.
In retirement, John embraced the simple joys he cherished most. He loved traveling, playing golf, fishing, and taking peaceful walks on the beach with Carol by his side. His warmth, humor, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Ann Spizuoco; his sister, Rose Gentilella; Sister-in Laws Janet Lisa and Patricia Techky, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Adam Spizuoco, his parents, Paul and Paulina Spizuoco, his brother, Anthony Spizuoco, and his sister, Filomena DeGaetano.
John’s life was one of unwavering service to his country, his city, his family, and his friends. He will be missed tremendously and remembered always for his strength, kindness, and the love he shared so generously.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10:30-11:00 on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, 577 E. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, FL, 34145. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 am.
