Katherine Marie Canady

Born on January 10, 1950, in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Kathy grew up in the Van Tassel apartments (VT) of North Tarrytown, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. The friendships she formed there endured through the decades, and many remained among her closest and most cherished relationships.

In 1968, Kathy made Marco Island her home. As part of one of the Island's early generations of residents, she witnessed its growth from a small developing community into the dynamic place it is today. Marco Island was more than where she lived, it was where she built her life, raised her family, forged lifelong friendships, and became woven into the fabric of the community she loved.

Kathy's life was not always easy. As a single mother raising three children, she faced many hardships with strength, determination, and perseverance. Through every challenge, she remained fiercely devoted to her family and committed to creating a loving home for her children. Along the way, she was supported by a remarkable circle of friends and family who became her village. Those friendships, many spanning decades, were among the greatest blessings of her life and a reflection of her love and loyalty.

Known throughout Marco Island for her warm smile, feisty spirit, and welcoming presence. Kathy spent more than forty years tending bar at some of the Island's most beloved establishments, including The Little Bar, The Islander, and the Snook Inn (30+ years). To many, she was far more than a bartender. She was a friend, confidante, and familiar face whose laughter and kindness made people feel at home.

Kathy was a lifelong sports fan and a passionate supporter of the New York Yankees, yet nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family. She especially treasured holidays and family gatherings, with Thanksgiving holding a special place in her heart. She was famous for her homemade meatballs and sauce, and her pot roast was a requested favorite at special family celebrations.

To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known as Grandma and Gigi. She was affectionately given the nickname “Rockin’ Granny” by her grandchildren, a name that perfectly captured her spirit. She doted on every one of them and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Her love for them was boundless, and they were the greatest joy of her life.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Daly (Drago); her beloved son, Michael Canady; and her siblings, Jackie, Tony, Elizabeth, and Maria (Mingione).

She is survived by her children, Marc (Katrina), Missy (Michele), and daughter-in-law Andrea; her grandchildren, Casey (Rhonda), Tyler (Erika), Jordan (Emily), and Madison Richardson-Canady; her great-grandchildren, Skylar (sister Ivy Rae Leggate) and Pierce; her brother, Robbie (Nancy, who was not only her sister in law but her confidante) Daly; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, former coworkers, and members of the Marco Island community whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Kathy's legacy is one of strength, perseverance, love, and unwavering devotion to family. She overcame adversity with courage, built a life rich in friendship and community, and leaves behind generations who are stronger because of her example. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home on Friday, September 11 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at San Marco Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
