Maryellen Patricia Ortiz

April 14, 1948December 19, 2019

Maryellen Patricia O’Shaughnessy Ortiz, born on April 14th, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York, went to Heaven on December 19th, 2019, with her family by her side in Naples, Florida. She is survived by her husband, Frankie Ray Ortiz of 47 years, son, Loren Ortiz, and daughters Natascha Wynn and Christie Ortiz. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick Ortiz, Jordan Wynn, Conner Wynn, Carsen Wynn, Champ (Yorkshire Terrier), and Tiki (Chihuahua). Maryellen, daughter of Owen and Helen O’Shaughnessy, spent her childhood in Cresskill, New Jersey with her brother Owen O’Shaughnessy and sister Regina Suarez. After traveling around the world singing with her Husband for many years known as Frankie Ray and Maryellen, the dynamic duo came to Marco Island in 1976 to work at the Marco Beach Hotel, currently known as the J.W. Marriot Marco Island Beach Resort. Marco Island became home for them. On December 13, 1986, they opened up their restaurant called La Casita Mexican Restaurant where they continued to entertain thousands of fans and families who many became family friends. The happiness people felt when they came to La Casita was undeniable and tons of memories were created through their music. Their legacy continues and can be found in the Marco Island Historical Museum where you will find the official song of Marco Island that they wrote called Marco Memories. Maryellen’s beautiful voice will live on as no one will ever forget her, and she is now singing with the angels, as an angel. There will be a mass said by Father Tim on Monday, December 30th at 10:00AM at San Marco Catholic Church on Marco Island. The burial service will be at Hodges Memorial Gardens in Naples, Florida at 12:30. Her family misses and loves her deeply, and her love will continue to shine. She is the “Wind Beneath Their Wings.” May God bless her and may she Rest In Peace.

Five years ago on Nov. 21st. Shelly and I celebrated 60 Years of marriage here in Naples. Fl. Frankie and Maryellen sang and played their beautiful music at out big party. We, and our guests loved them and so enjoyed their entertainment.
It is now 2020 and we were going to have another big event with Frankie and his sweet and beautiful Maryellen, but it did not happen. We canceled our party. We were then married 65 years.
It was so much fun going to the eatery where they sang. Now we do not go there anymore because this wonderful couple is not there. We miss you soooo much. Please keep in touch Frankie. May she "rest in peace". Love and hugs, Jan and Shelly

I have the fondest memories of Mary Ellen. I was a member of a band called “Front Page” and we played down the road from Frankie Ray & Mary Ellen at a restaurant called O’Sheas Wharf. We are started there in June of 1977. Frankie Ray & Mary Ellen would stop in and were very gracious to us & offered their advice as well as compliments on our performance. Mary Ellen had a wonderful voice. The deepest condolences from my wife Christine and I to Frankie Ray and family.

We will remember them always along with our daughte,Wendy. We first saw them at the Drake Hotrel in Chicago, and Wendy was a little girl, but she loved to hear them sing. Frequently, we visited them there and will keep those times in our memories forever.

Maryellen and I first met in 1968 when she joined my music group named the Classic Pattern. She brought sophistication to the band with her beauty, angelic voice and gentle personality. Maryellen had to leave the band and we had lost contact. Many years later I moved to Naples, FL where I met her again at the restaurant she and her husband Frankie owned and also performed. I have followed then ever since. Maryellen was a kind, gentle soul with the physical beauty of a movie star and an angelic voice that made any song beautiful. I am so very sorry for Frankie's and the family's loss and also mine. I will always remember you, Maryellen with fond affection. Rest in peace.
