Raymond Hamilton Apy

Raymond Hamilton Apy, Sr. passed from this life peacefully, gracefully and with dignity on January 24, 2026, surrounded by loving family in his home on Marco Island at age 92, after a very fulfilling, content and long life. Born on December 9, 1933 in Brooklyn to Raymond Apy and Florence (Miller) Apy, Ray is survived by his devoted wife of over sixty-three years, Kathryn McNeill Apy (Kathy), daughter, Laura DiBernardo (Anthony DiBernardo), son, Raymond H. Apy, Jr. (Francine Annese Apy) and six grandchildren (Jay Leach, Kate (Leach) Plamondon, Hannah Leach, Luke Apy, Matthew Apy, and John Apy).

Ray was exceedingly devoted to the love of his life and enjoyed a long retirement in Florida with her after spending his working life mainly in Syracuse, NY. Ray and Kathy raised their children in Pompey and Fayetteville, and Ray had a long career in telecommunications, ending it at what was then Niagara Mohawk Power Company for many years. Raymond was thankful for and faithful to God, a profoundly loving supporter for his family, a proud believer in the promise of the United States of America, and a fierce US Marine to the very last day - Semper Fi!

Ray attended Borden Military Institute through high school, and graduated from Adelphi University with a BA in English. The Harry Potter series captured his imagination in his later years, and he read and reread the entire series multiple times. He was an avid hobbyist, and enjoyed painting, birdwatching in Southwest Florida, playing guitar, singing, skiing (a passion his children are thankful he passed on to them), fly fishing, and aviation.

Ray appreciated the simplest of things and was always quick to smile. Most of all he loved spending quiet time at home with his soul mate. Ray will be loved for all eternity by his family and sorely missed.
