Scott was born December 27, 1949, in Green Bay, Wisconsin and attended West De Pere High School, where he lettered in both football and basketball. During the summer he worked as a millwright’s assistant at Fort Howard Paper Company. Graduating in 1968 near the top of his class he tried his hand at college in Northern Michigan University in Marquette and the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, but decided it was not the right path for him. His love of flying led to both a private pilot’s license and line jobs at Green Bay Aviation, North Central Airlines in Chicago and Rocky Mountain Airways in Steamboat Springs Colorado. While in Steamboat he “pounded nails and tended bar” to pursue his passion for downhill skiing. In 1983 Scott moved to Marco Island, Florida. There he earned his realtor’s license in order to manage the Marco Resort & Club. The job suited him well. He dealt with the owners, the renters, staff and contractors. He used his handyman skills and did the bookkeeping and got everything running again after hurricanes and high water. The Snook Inn sits next door to the resort. Scott was a daily lunch customer and along with his friends occupied the space they called, “The Philosophers’ Corner”. Over the years he pursued sailing, pontooning, power cruising, fishing and golf. His love of Marco Island was evident. Even after 43 years the view of the island from the causeway over the Marco River would prompt him to say, “I can’t believe I live here.”
Scott faced increasing health challenges in recent years, but that did not stop him from attending family gatherings. He came back to Wisconsin and Minnesota for his mom’s 99th birthday and sadly her memorial service some months later. On a happier note, he made the trips for a nephew’s wedding in Minneapolis and another in Denver. From there he drove to Steamboat to spend time with an old friend. Scott’s quick wit and sardonic humor stayed with him to the end. He was essentially immobile in a hospital bed at his rehab center, but when staff would explain that they were leaving to retrieve something for his therapy he would say, “I’ll wait right here.” Unfortunately, for your friends and family you are no longer “right here.” We will have to console ourselves with our loving memories of you, your wry humor and your devotion to family. Celebration of Life plans on Marco Island are pending.
