Thomas Alfred McCullough

Thomas Alfred McCullough, 80, of Marco Island, Florida, passed away at home on September 19, 2026. He was born on May 21, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Paul McCullough and Teresa Gorman, and grew up in South Philadelphia.

Tom served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He went on to a long and successful career in banking, leading Grange National Bank as it grew from two branches to more than forty by the time he retired. His approach to business, and to most things, came down to a saying his colleagues heard often: "If you can't beat them, outlast them."

Some of Tom's happiest years were spent on the family property on Tewksbury Hollow Road in Laceyville, Pennsylvania, where he and Helen raised their five sons. He loved that land. Many weekends found him in the woods with his boys, cutting and hauling firewood, and the work ethic he built in them will forever stay with each of them. When he wasn't working the land, he was happiest fishing for walleye, especially in New York's Thousand Islands region.

Of all his accomplishments, Tom was proudest of putting all five of his sons through college and seeing the men they became. But the great love of his life was his wife, Helen, and nothing made him happier than spending time with her celebrating their children and grandchildren.

Tom was a parishioner of San Marco Catholic Church on Marco Island. He was also an avid golfer, a member of the Marco Men's Club, and a friend to everyone he played with. His friends at the Island Country Club will miss seeing him at the driving range, working to perfect his swing.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Helen; his sons Thomas Jr. (Karen), Matt, Mark (Anita), John (Linda), and Luke (Liza); his eleven grandchildren, Dalton, Thomas III, Raegan, Madeline, James, Michael, Vivian, Logan, Luke Jr., Miles, and Patrick; and his great-granddaughter, Victoria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul McCullough and Teresa Gorman, and his brother, Paul McCullough Jr.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at San Marco Catholic Church, Marco Island, Florida. Arrangements are by Hodges – Josberger Funeral Home.
