Thomas F. Milardo, 88 of Marco island, Florida passed away on Thursday February 7, 2013 at home with family. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on January 29, 1925. he was the son of the late Thomas R. and Gertrude Elsa Witt Milardo.
He graduated from West Haven High School and attended USMMA at kings Point academy in Long Island, new York.
Upon graduation from Kings Point in 1945 he was assigned to a troop transporter which took our soldiers to the Normandy Coast. Later he joined the American Presidents Line on many trips around the world. He also served time in the Navy as an Ensign. Then he went to the United States Lines Shipping Company and sailed between New York and Europe. The SS United States won the blue ribbon crossing the Atlantic between Europe and America as the fastest vessel.
He married Ursula Nora Gabriel in Germany in 1950 and then brought his wife to the U.S.. Several years later they had a daughter, Sharon.
After retiring from years as a first engineer, he worked for Bayar Co in CT as an engineer. After many years of vacationing on Marco Island, his family moved from Milford, CT to Marco in 1989 and later he became a substitute teacher for Collier County Public Schools.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ursula in 2009 and leaves behind his daughter Sharon and husband Konrad Mayerhofer, sister, Laura CM Lenox in Orange, Connecticut.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 19 6pm at Hodges Josberger Funeral Home on Marco Island.
