

On December 23, 2014 heaven received an another angel, Veronica Gibbons,78 years old. She was a resident of Marco Island,Florida for the past 20 years. Prior to moving to Florida she lived and raised her family on Staten Island,NY for more than 50 years.
Veronica was born in Queens, NY on January 19,1936. She graduated high school from Dominican Commercial. She met the love of her life at the age of 12, her beloved husband Gerald Gibbons. They were married upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy on April 4, 1959.
After raising her 3 children, Veronica returned to college and received her associates degree in 1979. Veronica worked as a Para in Tottenville H.S. for over 20 years, She was a very active member in Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish and Community, where she volunteered her time generously.
Veronica was an avid bowler,gardener, cook, Yankees fan, and enjoyed boating on the weekends with Jerry and her children. One of her greatest joys was our big gatherings at the Jersey Shore with her entire family and friends. Our mom lived every day to the fullest and was never seen without a smile on her face. She was known to all as the " Energizer Bunny".
When she retired to Marco Island 20 years ago, she was involved with numerous clubs: Just Friends, New Comers, and was president of Catholic Council of Women(CCW) for 2 terms. She was a Eucharistic Minister at San Marco Catholic Church up until her illness prevented her from continuing.
One of her greatest passions was volunteering for St. Vincent De Paul Society, which she spoke about often. Always volunteering her time with her smile and a happiness no one will ever forget.
She is survived by her husband and best friend for over 55 years, Gerald: her loving children; Kathy, Gerald, and Karen; her 10 grandchildren: Christopher, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Michael, Bryan, James, Alexa, Kyle, Austen, and Kurt.. Her 10 grandchildren were her pride and joy and could always found adorned on the necklace she so proudly wore every day. She is also survived by her beloved son in laws, Dr. James Lafferty and Alan Tangen. She was the love, inspiration, and pillar of our family. She was our beloved "VERA TOT SWEETIE", and will be missed tremendously but forever alive in our hearts.
She touched countless lives in Staten Island and Florida with her unconditional love and friendship. Veronica had more friends than anyone could count or imagine.
Funeral arrangements were held on Marco Island at San Marco Catholic Church on December 27, 2014. A memorial service by her family will be held on February 21, 2015 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Staten Island,NY at 10:00 am.
