Bill was born on May 7, 1936, to William and Florence Feehan and was raised alongside his brother and sister in Albia, Iowa. He came from a large, extended Irish Catholic family and remained close to many cousins throughout his life.
Bill was married to his beloved wife, Barbara, for 65 years. They were true life partners who enjoyed golfing, dancing, spending time with family, and sharing the company of good friends.
After graduating from Truman State University, Bill built a distinguished career in sales leadership with E.R. Squibb & Sons. A dedicated and respected professional, he served the company in various roles for 35 years before retiring from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1995 and settling on Marco Island, Florida.
Bill was a natural athlete that had a lifelong passion for golf and was competitive at an early age. He was an excellent pool player and earned enough money winning pool tournaments as a teenager to purchase his first set of golf clubs. He was a member of the Albia Country Club along with his cousins Tom and Jim who were lifelong friends and golf enthusiasts. Tom and Bill established a high school golf team along with two other friends that went on to play in the state tournament in 1954. The team set a course record at the Albia Country Club their senior year of High School, shooting 304 - a course record that still stands today.
Bill was a champion golfer that brought him to hundreds of tournaments, winning more than 100 in his career. Most notably, he placed second in the 1952 Iowa Amateur, winning the Iowa Masters in 1967, and winning the Florida Super Senior Championship, where he was team captain in 2012. A phenomenal golfer, Bill was known not only for his competitive drive but also for his exceptional sportsmanship, earning the admiration and respect of fellow players and friends alike.
Beyond the fairways, Bill found great pleasure in fishing and gardening. Fishing was a lifelong pastime, and he especially cherished summer trips to Canada with his brother-in-law Joe, his sons, nephews, son-in-law, and close friends. He loved the camaraderie of camp life, the beauty of nature, and the anticipation of a great catch. That passion continued on the waters off Marco Island, where Bill was often relied upon to bring home dinner—much to Barbara’s delight as she transformed the day’s catch into a family feast.
Bill took great pride in his home, thoughtfully designing and lovingly tending to its gardens and landscapes. He was known for his hearty laugh, welcoming smile, and appreciation for a good sense of humor. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his brother, Richard (Dick) Feehan; and his brother-in-law, Richard (Dick) Maddison. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Maddison; sister-in-law Marian Feehan; and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Mary Sacco. He is also survived by his children: Bill (Sue), Jim (Erin), Debbie (Rich), Susan, Jean (Manny), and John (Kim); 14 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and countless friends.
