

William "Bill" Shurina, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Marco Island, Florida, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on January 6, 1947, and grew up in Mountainside, New Jersey. Following his graduation from college, he made his home in Bridgewater, New Jersey, where he and his wife Barbara raised their family.
Bill enjoyed a long and successful career at Johnson & Johnson, where he worked in accounting and ultimately retired as Director of Travel and Meeting Services. Affectionately known as "Dollar Bill" for his sharp eye with numbers, he combined professionalism, dedication, and steady leadership to build strong relationships throughout his career and was deeply respected by colleagues and friends alike.
In 2004, Bill and Barbara became full-time residents of Marco Island, embracing the vibrant community that they would proudly call home for the rest of their lives. In retirement, Bill became a beloved and familiar figure in the Marco Island community, particularly through his passion for senior softball. For 18 years, he served as Commissioner of the Marco Island Senior Softball League, helping guide and grow the program while building a strong sense of camaraderie among its players. Under his leadership, the league flourished and became an important part of community life on the island. His commitment, organization, and love of the game earned him the gratitude and admiration of countless teammates and friends.
Above all else, Bill was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He cherished time spent together, whether celebrating holidays, attending sporting events, sharing family vacations, or simply enjoying each other's company.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Shurina; his daughter Alison Palmer and her husband Rob, and their sons Matt and Ryan; and his son Bill Shurina and his wife Kristy, and their daughters Emma and Avery. He was predeceased by his mother, Estelle, father, William and brother, Thom.
A service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 2:00 PM at San Marco Catholic Church.
