Born in Washington, DC, to Alan and Mary Joe Swan on April 22nd, 1961, Amalie married Mickey Ray Johnson, the love of her life, on November 28th, 1991.
Amalie graduated from the University of Miami where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation, she worked at the Madras Women’s Christian College and travelled extensively in India, visiting several village schools founded by her grandfather and great-grandfather. Upon her return, she obtained a Master of Social Work from Barry University. She worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Miami and Marietta, primarily helping displaced women and children.
Amalie was a devoted wife and mother. She supported Mickey through a successful career at SunTrust Bank. Together, they built a life filled with joy as they raised their two boys. Supporting the needs of her family, Amalie drove many miles, taking her boys and their friends to and from activities. Those lucky enough to spend time with Amalie always experienced lively conversation and plenty of laughter.
Amalie was passionate about her family, friends, and community. After moving to Marietta in 2003, she involved herself in the local schools, supporting the various clubs in support of her sons’ activities: Walton Marching Raiders, Chorus, Drama/Theatre, and various sports teams. For the Drama Club, she created costumes for the productions, fed many young actors, and assisted wherever there was a need. She was quick with a laugh and a loving hug for those in distress. Constantly looking to help, Amalie could always be available to assist a friend with a project or provide comfort and guidance. She loved cooking for friends, ensuring they were fed and often having fun experimenting with recipes. Music was always a part of her life, and she was quick to break out into song or dance with friends and family to celebrate the moment.
As a loving sister, she was the glue that held her siblings together. She brought humor to those challenging moments of growing up and ensured that Alan and Kathleen were never far from her loving and influential embrace. As the distances grew (NYC, Chicago, and Atlanta), Amalie ensured that there was always a place for the family to be together, hosting holidays, traveling to visit, and being on-call whenever one was in need.
Amalie is survived by her husband, Mickey; sons Hale Woods Johnson (Ansley Morgan Solomon) and Everett Alan Johnson, all of NYC; her mother, Mary Joe Swan of Miami; her sister, Kathleen Swan (Thomas Elliot) of Chicago; brother, Alan Swan (Karin Swan) of New Jersey; Sister-in-law, Joni Johnson of Miami; brother-in-law Rommie Johnson (Vicky Abbate) of Ocala, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many dear friends who adored and cherished her.
The gathering to celebrate Amalie's life will be held on March 16, 2024, starting at 2:00 p.m. with a short dedication starting at 2:15 at the H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel at 1157 Old Canton Road E. Marietta, Georgia 30068.
