Ann grew up in Gainesville, Florida, the daughter of Charles and Florence Durrance, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College and devoted 20 years to teaching children in the Cobb County School District. Over the course of her career, she taught first through third grades at several schools, touching the lives of generations of young students. Teaching was a natural fit for Ann, whose patience, kindness, and caring nature extended far beyond her own family.
Ann was, above all, a sweet and loving person. She truly never met a stranger. She had a warmth about her that made people feel welcome and at ease, and she gave her love freely to her family, her friends, and the many people whose lives crossed hers over the years.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She loved her church and especially treasured singing in the choir. Ann had a gift for making others feel welcome and went out of her way to be among the first to greet newcomers after church services. Music, fellowship, and the friendships she found there brought her great happiness.
Ann loved traveling the world with her husband and family. Whether exploring by car, touring new places, cruising aboard ships, or traveling the rivers of Europe by riverboat, she embraced the adventure and the opportunity to experience new places with the people she loved. Even having a small fish unexpectedly drop into her beverage from a raised lock gate while traveling on the Rhine River couldn’t dampen her enthusiasm for the journey—or the stories that came from it.
Ann also had a special place in her heart for her cats, who were much-loved members of her family and a source of companionship and joy.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Rodney Snead; her daughters, Ginny Lummus and her husband, Scott, and Carol Crosslin and her husband, Kevin; her grandchildren, Morgan DeCross and Ben Crosslin; her great-grandchildren, Vincent and Zander DeCross; her sister, Carol Durrance Dunbar and her husband, Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and countless memories of her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the love she gave so easily. Those who knew her will remember a woman who welcomed people into her life with an open heart, loved her family dearly, cherished her faith, and found joy in the people, places, and animals she loved.
Her absence will be deeply felt, but the warmth and love she gave throughout her life will remain with those fortunate enough to have known her.
A service celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Ann's name to St. Catherine's Episcopal Church or Good Mews animal foundation.
