Nanny Barbara or Aunt Barbara, as she was affectionately called, was born on January 2nd, 1935 to the late Lewis Monroe Bryant Sr. and Lula Williams (Maw Maw) Bryant of Smyrna, GA as the youngest and only girl amongst her siblings.

She is preceded in death by the members of her birth family; her children's father, George H. Emmett; her partner, Harry L. Swink; and her granddaughter, Ashley Emmett Caldwell.

Ms. Emmett is survived by her sons Darrell Alan Emmett and Derek Baxter Emmett; her grandchildren, Leslie Emmett and her children, Xier, Lewis, and Skylar; Ashley Emmett Caldwell's children, Levi and Kylie; Westley Emmett and his children, Jaxon and Maliyah; Dustin and Lacie Emmett and their children, Annara and Kai; Andrea Emmett; and Jesse Slaughter and his daughter, Heaven; as well as many extended family members who she loved dearly.

Barbara Bryant Emmett was part of the last graduating class of Smyrna High School in 1951. She was a member of Spring Street Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA. Barbara began singing at a young age at her church and became a gospel singer with The Harmonettes who traveled all over the South to many different churches and venues to spead the Good News of the Gospel. She shared her love for the Lord with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone she met through her singing and the way she cared for people. Barbara retired from Southern Bell (BellSouth/AT&T) as a proofreader in Atlanta, GA. After retirement, she continued to sing with The Harmonettes and solo all while taking her grandchildren to Vacation Bible School and Sunday School as often as she could. She loved caring for and spending time with her grandchildren and her partner, Harry and traveling with them all. She made sure to attend the Bryant Family Reunion as often as she could and leaves behind many extended family members and friends who she cherished. Barbara passed away of natural causes peacefully in her sleep at sunrise and leaves behind a legacy full of love for the Lord and for her family and friends. She always gave her all and extended her love and energy as much as she could for her loved ones. This remained true through her last days. Barbara left such a positive impact on many lives and will be dearly missed.

Best Aunt anybody could ask for. So many great memories. We had the best family vacations. she love to embarrass us kids. She was so funny. Traveling across the country to Arizona for two weeks. We had a blast. She never let us pass a ice cream or fudge stand up. All the Bryant reunions we attended ( all my life) All the Friday’s I teased all that Bryant hair. That was my honor to be your hairdresser all those years and your neice. We had some great times together . Thank you for always making us feel so loved. She made everyone that knew her feel that way. Momma is gonna be lost without you. Not only her family but her best friend and her first. I find peace in your passing knowing that when you got to heaven there was a whole lot of shouting going on. I love you Aunt Barbara .

I was blessed to have Aunt Barbara as my honorary Aunt. I know of not one person that could say one thing bad about her. I loved her and miss her but she is completely healed and she is singing today with her friends and family
