Benjamin Lester Parker, age 79, of Marietta, formerly of Wrightsville, Georgia, died December 9, 2012. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Parker, born in Wrightsville, was a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church; and was veteran of the United States Marine Corp., serving from 1950 until 1953. He was a Captain with the City of Marietta Fire Services, retiring after 35 years of service. Ben was an avid motorcycle rider and racer. He was a powerlifter with the United States Powerlifting Federation where he held various state records. Ben participated in state and national Police-Fire meets; and also served as a National USPF judge after his retirement. He and his wife traveled the United States, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Traylor Parker.
Survivors include his daughters, Denise Marlin of Covington and Elaine Cain (Dan) of Charleston, SC. Son, Paul Parker (Peggy) of Marietta. Sister, Elizabeth Herringdine of Wrightsville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Heritage Hospice, 3315 Hilltop Drive Marietta, Ga 30066.
