Bernita “Bonnie” Stewart, 92, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2015 in her home in Marietta, GA She had the most amazing caregivers whom she loved and who loved her. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of them. She was born on January 15, 1923, in Berthaud, Colorado to the late George and Mary Weber. She met and married Leo McClanahan in 1945 and moved to Buffalo, New York, where they lived and raised their family, until they retired and moved to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1966. For Bernita, life was centered around her home and raising her family. She was an avid golfer and loved to bowl, play piano and entertain friends and family. Three years after Leo McClanahan passed away in 1994, she married Richard Stewart, an old family friend and moved to Calabash, NC. In 2012 after Richard passed, she moved to Georgia to be near her daughter and granddaughters. She was a very lovely, sweet natured woman and we were all extremely blessed to have had her in our lives. Bernita is survived by her daughter, Carol Rea (John), of Marietta, GA, her son, Leo McClanahan (Margaret), of Sebastian, FL, and her cherished grandchildren, Allison Rea, of Atlanta, GA, Kevin Rea (Lindsey) of Memphis, TN, and Leslie Averitt (Tyler) of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Weber (Mary) of Littleton, CO, and nieces and nephews in Colorado, all of whom she loved dearly. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son – Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30068. The family will receive friends for a reception with light refreshments following the service.
