

Bette Louise Fitz Callahan passed away on September 23, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Whiting, Indiana on September 18, 1928, Bette had endless, unconditional love. She took on a motherly and grandmotherly role to countless people in her life, regardless of relation. She married Donald Callahan at age 21, enjoying 54 years of marriage. The couple traveled the world together, making lifelong memories Bette loved to recount. After retiring from her career in real estate, Bette dedicated herself to her beloved garden, ancestry research, painting and writing. After creating decades worth of paintings, she focused her attention on religious poetry. She was a long-time contributor and friend to Writers Words on Record.
Preceded in death by her parents, Donald E. Fitz and Myrtle Flora Cochran Fitz; brother, Donald E. Fitz Jr.; husband, Donald G. Callahan; son, Michael G. Callahan.
She is survived by daughter, Candyce Davidson (Norman); grandchildren, Brien Davidson (Shari), Mark Davidson, Nicole Martinez (Tommy Martinez), and Jason Callahan.
Great-grandchildren, Alyssa Mae Davidson, David Davidson, Colin Sautner, Rowan Sautner, Joseph Martinez Jesse Martinez, Ella Callahan, and Joshua Martinex; great-great-grandchildren, Lucy Martinez, Jessie Tommie Martinez (born on Bette’s 97th birthday).
