My dearest Mama,

I still cannot believe you are no longer with us or understand why you were taken so soon. Your absence leaves a hole in the hearts of so many lives and you will be missed tremendously by all of those who knew you. What a gift it was to know you and especially to love you.

Though you are gone from this earth physically, I know you will forever be with us in spirit. When I need to feel you or talk to you, I know I’ll find you in the mountains, in the sunset over the lake, every time I go camping or see a hummingbird or every time my Christmas cactus blooms. There are so many places you’ll be that I know I will never be without you.

I’ll forever be grateful for you being my mom and my best friend. You taught me how to be strong, determined, independent, and creative. You inspired me with your tenacity to get things done, your courage to go after the things you wanted, even when you were afraid, and the empathy you showed to all living things. I’ll also remember the softness you hid under your tough exterior, the compassion you could show, how you healed every animal that came your way. Most importantly, I will remember the love that you had for me and for Papa.

My greatest hope for you Mama, is that you found peace in your passing. May your anxiety be gone, may you have the courage to canter Little Man across the field, have the opportunity to give countless hugs to your mother, and may you feel the joy you never truly got to find here in this life.

Papa and I will love you for the rest of our lives and we will hold our memories of you close to our heart.

My final promise to you:

You will never be forgotten.
