

Mrs. Beverley Fretwell Sanford, 82, of Kennesaw, GA, formerly of Warsaw, VA, passed away January 5, 2014. She was born on April 10, 1931 in Richmond, VA to the late Mary Banks and James William Fretwell. After graduating from Farmville High School, Beverley attended Mary Washington College and Virginia Commonwealth University, formerly known as Richmond Polytechnic Institute. She was an artist who enjoyed painting, making hand woven baskets, sewing, growing roses and a variety of crafts. When her daughters were growing up, she loved volunteering whenever needed, and never missed an athletic event or fine arts performance. She always supported and encouraged her daughters in every way. She also founded the Red Hat Society in Warsaw, VA. Beverley was very fun, social and young at heart. She had a very giving spirit. Beverley moved to Warsaw as a young bride; she was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she raised her family on Morgan Lane and immensely enjoyed life with her many Northern Neck friends. In 2005, she relocated to Kennesaw, GA to be near her family. There, she made many new friends and loved her life in Stonebrooke Village. Beverley will be remembered as a loving mother to her two daughters who meant the world to her, as a wonderful Ma-Ma to her grandchildren, and for her never ending passion for life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Cordell Sanford, sister, Betty Anne Fretwell, her parents, and her long-time companion, Dick Packett. Beverley leaves behind her daughters, Mary Bev Barrett (John) and Kathryn Fant (John) and grandchildren, Meghan, Sean and Holly Barrett and Colin and Harrison Fant. Beverley’s family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of East Cobb for their wonderful and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:00pm in the chapel of H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill, Marietta, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Funeral services in Warsaw, VA, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Beverley to the Outreach Ministry of St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta, GA, where Beverley was met weekly with Eucharist and prayer.
