Bruce honorably served in the U.S. Army and remained proud of his service throughout his life. He will be interred at Georgia National Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.
A master craftsman in every sense of the word, Bruce possessed the rare ability to breathe new life into everything he touched. His hands were never idle, and his mind was constantly solving the next problem. He viewed every project—whether restoring a home or perfecting a recipe—as a testament to his character: if it was worth doing, it was worth doing to his vision of perfection.
Bruce’s handiwork was woven into the fabric of his life. He took immense pride in his home, rebuilding it from top to bottom with his own two hands. His ability to look at just about anything and figure out how to make it better was also visible in his beloved boat, Polo, which he meticulously rebuilt and expanded, even crafting a year-round room entirely on his own. He was a man who never surrendered to a problem; he had an innate, unwavering ability to figure things out, working with relentless focus until the job was not just done, but done right.
While his skills were vast, his truest talents were displayed in his devotion to those he loved. For 26 years, he served as the heart of his and Susan’s kitchen, preparing every single meal for them—a labor of love that was widely admired by all who tasted his cooking. His culinary talents were widely known among friends and family. He took pride in living his motto: “Love people. Feed them.” In the last several years, he became interested in the science and art of making sourdough breads. He would experiment for months to perfect a single recipe, refusing to share a loaf until he was certain it was worthy of gift giving.
Bruce was also a fierce advocate for animals in need. For 11 years, he worked in dog rescue with Susan and opened their home to 65 foster dogs from shelters throughout Georgia, ensuring each one found the loving, happy life they deserved.
Though he was often busy creating, Bruce was also a man of deep intellectual curiosity. A voracious reader, he was rarely seen without his Kindle, always prepared to lose himself in a good book during a quiet moment of waiting. Whether he was building, baking, or reading, he approached life with a sense of purpose, integrity, and an unyielding commitment to excellence that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am, May 8th at St. Ann's Catholic Church.
