Carol Groover Szell, 48, of Marietta passed away peacefully into eternity with Christ on Monday, April 15, 2013, after a year and half battle with lung cancer. Carol fought this terrible illness just as she lived her life – with strength, courage, and grace.
Carol and her extended family have been rooted in Marietta for generations. She graduated from Wheeler High School, attended Berry College for two years, and graduated from Georgia Tech. She then married Paul, her husband, best friend, and partner in life.
Carol was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Carol was an encourager and a source of joy to all with whom she came in contact. She is best known for her bright smile, her vibrant spirit, her sense of adventure, and her uncompromising faith in Christ. Carol’s wonderful, infectious laugh welcomed all who heard it into the joy that flowed from her life. Carol’s effervescent personality drew people to her. She touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her and made each of them a better person. Carol’s exemplary life leaves a tremendous legacy.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Paul, and her three amazing children - Christin, David, and Jonathan. She is also survived by her mother, Virginia Groover, her brother, Rob Groover, her in-laws, Carrie and Imre Szell, and her brother-in-law, Mike Szell. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Groover.
The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home at 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia at 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm on April 17, 2013. A celebration of life will be Thursday, April 18, at 2 pm at Eastside Baptist Church, 2450 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Carol Groover Szell Scholarship Fund at Eastside Christian School to give children who cannot afford a Christian education the
