Charles Guy “Chuck” Edmundson, 69, died on October 8, 2026, at his home in Marietta, Georgia, surrounded by his family, after a year long battle with glioblastoma. Born on July 13, 1957, to the late Charles and Mattie Jo Edmundson in Hendersonville, North Carolina and raised in nearby Asheville, Chuck was a man defined by his intelligence, good humor, and devotion to his family.
He was born in the mountains of western North Carolina and maintained a connection to them throughout his life. A graduate of T.C. Roberson High School and the University of North Carolina, Chuck was an avid fan of Tarheel basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was thrilled to be able to attend numerous games during the Braves march to the 2021 World Series and to watch the Heels defeat the hated “dookies” during the 2022 Final Four.
A journalist by trade, Chuck began his career at the Asheville Citizen-Times before working at television news stations in Asheville, Spartanburg, South Carolina, Huntington, West Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia. He eventually transitioned to the world of public relations, ultimately founding A-1 Broadcast, a successful media relations firm that will continue in his absence. Through it all, he maintained an interest in current events and history. There was rarely a day when he did not read the AJC and/or bored his wife with watching a historical documentary.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his sister, Darlene Briggs.
Chuck is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Dayle “Dede” Marks Edmundson; one daughter, Rachel (Zach) Nelson of Smyrna, Georgia; two sons, Hunter (Allie) Edmundson of Dunwoody, Georgia and Sam Edmundson of Marietta, Georgia; two grandsons, Cole Nelson and Charlie Edmundson; three sisters, Barbara (Alan) Edmundson, Betsy (Chuck) Harmon, and Charla Youngblood; one brother, Kenny (Jana) Edmundson, as well as numerous nephews and nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, friends, colleagues, and employees.
Most of all, he will be remembered as a man of infinite generosity, who made friends easy, and who put others before himself. Chuck liked nothing more than spending time with his friends and family over cocktails and will never be forgotten by those who raise a glass in his honor.
Friends may visit from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel at 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Eastside Church Marietta at 2450 Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Spectrum Autism Support Group, PO Box 3132, Suwanee, GA 30024, or online at spectrumautism.org.
