Karl R. (Sr.) and Edna Haase welcomed their beloved and only surviving child, Charles, into the world in August of 1933, imparting on him their sense of duty, Christian values, and love of stamp collecting. They moved to New York in, where he graduated from Rye High School in 1953; from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1958, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity, with his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; and from George Washington University in 1962 with his master’s degree in Science in Engineering.
He began his career in the service of the US Navy in Norfolk VA, where he met, adored, and married Sandra Jean “Sandy” Westeen. They settled in Framingham, MA to start a family. Chuck took immense pride in his children Karl, Megan, and Jennie. According to his children – he was the “best dad ever”! He almost never missed a play, sporting event, or school ceremony. He had a gentle hand and was always offering encouragement and advice. In 1999, Chuck and Sandy moved to Kennesaw, Georgia to be close to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his family, Chuck led an accomplished professional career. He continued his Engineering trade from the Navy while working at Honeywell. He was fortunate to be involved in many ground breaking projects including key roles in the creation, testing and delivery of the first virtual computer memory in the US, as well as involvement with marketing Honeywell’s first personal computers.
In 2006, Chuck and Yvonne Jarrett were blessed to meet and marry after both had been pre-deceased by their spouses. Chuck was an active member of Eastside Church. He was baptized there in 2010 and led a bible study on the teachings of Jesus. He was a member of Woodmen Life, Marietta Chapter 1245, and served as President of that chapter for 2 years. Together, Chuck and Yvonne shared many interests and hobbies. They were avid Atlanta Braves fans, loved reading together and visiting golf courses wherever they travelled. They were very active and competitive and became ping-pong legends at the Eastside Activities Center.
Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra (“Sandy”) Jean Haase and his daughter, Megan Vidarri. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Jarrett Haase; son and daughter-in-law, Karl R. and Paula Haase of Marietta, daughter, Jennifer (“Jennie”) Haase of Cherry Log; grandchildren, Lauren (“Marc”), Alexandra (“Allie”), and Max; great-grandson, Paul; stepchildren, Blaine, Thomas and Donna and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chuck only had charitable things to say about everyone. His dignified, gentle manner was only ever disrupted by a quip of dry humor, a holdover from his Midwestern upbringing. While those privileged enough to have known him will deeply feel his absence, they are comforted by nearly a century of loving memories and the knowledge that he died as he lived – in Christ’s light.
The family is planning a private family gathering to celebrate his life at a later time.
Psalm 91: 14-16
‘Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”
